I bought a Blu Life One X almost a year ago. I've enjoyed it but the battery and camera have left some to be desired. not that I expected a lot, but I have found they are very important to me, and disappoint with this phone. I've always been a fan of WP but found it hard to switch bc of the app ecosystem. I've played with a 1520 before and loved the huge screen. it sounds like the battery and camera are great as well, which I will love. and I love the uniqueness of Windows phone and huge phones in general, and especially the design of the 1520. But I also still love android and could not live without its app ecosystem. Do you think I should pick one up for around $100 as a companion to my Blu?
I watch a lot of YouTube. I enjoy taking photos. I'm on social media a lot. Spotify is a big one. On the internet a lot, as well as social media (FB, IG, Snapchat) Im also a student in High School. I have a Nexus 7 2013. Heavily invested in Google Ecosystem. I love tinkering

Your questions is easier to answer than "Should I switch from Android/iOS to Windows Mobile?"

Since you're going to use it as a companion device then I see no reason why you shouldn't. Especially if you like to keep track of what's going on with Windows Mobile.

Make sure you get a spare battery (especially if it's a used device)
Also, upgrade it to Windows 10.

Cool, Thanks. At this point for me I guess it's just justifying spending the $100. Even though it's a steal for the phone, it's still $100.

Do the batteries wear out quickly over time? Many reviews had spoken very well of the battery. Although, I guess it is almost 4 years old...

Also was phantom touch ever resolved? Is it very common?

Also I've heard W10M is pretty unstable, many said to stay on WP8.1. Thoughts? Why do you prefer 10?

(I'm looking at this one. Don't buy it though XD. [Link removed]

    1. Do it. It's perfect for your stated use.
    2. Batteries wear. We know this. 2 factors to consider are charge cycles and storage. The more charge cycles the less capacity left. Storage under poor conditions - not charged properly before being stored and/or being stored in a hot place will both contribute to reduced capacity. We can't know those factors. Pay your money and take your chance. Batteries can be found for replacement, but not all of them seem to report as official. Check the threads in this forum. FWIW, the 1520 is not 4 years old. It just passed 3 having launched in October 2013. If memory serves and the intel was good the supply seemed to start draining out in the spring of 2015 so it likely had an approximate run of manufacture spanning 16-18 months. Hard to say when the one you are looking at was made. I bought mine BNIB in August 2014 and used it heavily until October 2016. The battery is somewhat diminished, but nothing to concern me should I need to press it into daily service again...
    3. Phantom touch seems to have been pretty much identified as a result of flex. That long polycarbonate unibody has a tendancy to mold to the curve of your thigh when the device is carried in your pants pocket. This misaligns elements used in the display and logic board. Straightening the device would seem to relieve the symptoms for many. Check this post (and the rest of the thread being linked as well as the many other threads in the 1520 forum on this issue): http://forums.windowscentral.com/nok...0/297759-6.htm
    4. For you... Stay on Windows Phone 8.1 + Lumia Denim. Reasoning: most agree that the camera algorithms are better on 8.1 and there is empirical evidence that shot to shot speed is much better on 8.1 than on W10M due to speedier processing times. Apps aren't going to be your big thing on this device anyway. You won't need to move to 10 to get the best experience out of a 1520.
    5. Have a look here: http://forums.windowscentral.com/gen...e3oh-1c0n.html I'm chronicling my project to retire my 1520 to a dedicated Camera and Travel Aid along with a dedicated Camera project I'm doing with a Lumia 1020. Participation by all is welcomed.

    Good Luck.
