AT&T says the VPN feature is not supported. I suspect they just don't understand the feature. Can anyone help me set up a VPN connection on an AT&T 2520?

Go to the start screen and then swipe in from the right and tap the search charm. Type in VPN, in the list it brings up should be an option to add a new VPN connection... tap that and you'll be taken to a screen that can walk you through it.

I use it on Verizon, MSFT VPN. No issues here, I would try over 4G or if you know your home WiFi works with it try that.

also it could depend on VPN settings they are bit different in 8.1 vs win 7

Yeah make sure hit connect and disconnect when not using it. I was able to map network drives, no luck with printers though.

Or the person you spoke is an incompetent employee who thought that the Lumia 2520 OS is the same as Windows Phone 8.0 which does not support or have any VPN feature. That will change eventually with Windows Phone 8.1

Someone who has successfully setup a VPN service using their 2520, would love to have some step by step guide how you got it to work. :)

Revisiting the question. Someone here is using VPN on their Nokia 2520. So given that there is only a choice of Check Point VPN, F5 VPN, Juniper Networks Junos Pulse, Microsoft, SonicWall Moble Connect. Can anyone share what service they are using and how you were able to set it up? This can be done, otherwise why have it available in Windows RT on the Nokia 2520?

Ive come to the conclusion that I just use my data plan, no need for a VPN unless you are in a free wifi hotspot, then VPN is essential.
