Keyboard problems

Odd one this. My girlfriends 520 has suddenly started to display keyboard problems. When she types (in any application) she can only manage about 8 characters before the keyboard stops responding. When I say stops responding, it flashes to register keypresses/swipes etc but nothing else happens. Sometimes backing out of the keyboard and then resuming typing helps but sometimes not. Swipe and text suggestions have disappeared as well. Changed all settings but to no avail. Hard reset coming up?

try a soft reset first, hold power + volume down until the phone vibrates

Yeah tried doing that although it is increasingly difficult as, being a 520, the power button has broken. Its fixed now - hard reset sorted it.
