Nokia 520 Touch screen broken. Still not working after replacing

My Nokia 520 phone touch screen was broken, so I have bought a new one and installed it...still doesn't work. Even though I still get informed when I receive a message or phone call, I can't operate the touch screen.
How can I retrieve data like the tiles containing internet bookmarks I have pinned to my main screen?

It is quite common to:
1. receive a faulty digitizer for this phone especially from China
2. very easy to mess up the flex circuit when trying to attach the digitizer to the LCD and then plugging the flex circuit into the LCD.

Your best bet is to buy a broken but working Lumia 520 on eBay and swap out the LCD completely. As these phones are getting older people are selling off junk parts to get whatever money they can so it is better to buy a phone with bad IMEI and use the LCD from such a phone. Good luck.
