If you bought a prepaid Lumia from Walmart, for example, you need to activate it at least once on their $50 prepaid plan. I bought one to use with Simple Mobile and I had the same problems. Activated the T-Mobile plan and now even the Internet Sharing works. The rep there told me a lot of people have been through the same.

I see, guess I'll have to wait till this Straight Talk month runs out and I'll activate it on t-mobile after.

This guys solution worked for me but I"m done with Straight Talk after this week when my month is over. Now I can't access the web and not sure if they tethered me or whatever but too much drama with them and their poor customer service. Going t-mobile 30 dollar limited plan.
