About a month ago, the phone suddenly had all incoming call reception so horrible that, I can barely understand what people are saying. I constantly hav eto say, ""excuse me, what was that again", etc. I tweeted back and forth with Nokia Lumia for a few days. Resulting in losing all of my data after that told me that a factory reset of my phone should resolve the issue.

Before I give up on this phone all together, can anyone provide me one that trick of solution that I can try? It is currently running Windows 8.1 which, Nokia Lumina also said would work.

Thank you,
Dan

1 Only the reception is bad but if you play music the sound if good.
2 Get your SIM out and put it back.
3 Ask a friend to swich SIM cards.
4 The people you call understand you clear?

1 nothing wrong with the speakers.
2+3 wil prove it is your phone or your SIM/provider.

No guaranty but you never know.

Is it just in one location (assume home) or does it happen in different locations ? If just one location, this could possibly indicate a tower problem, poor reception. Can the other person hear you clearly ? If YES, then I'd say the device is defective. SORRY, I have NO silver bullet to magically fix it. Using the Lumia 521, I assume you're on T-Mobile & they're NOT known for building penetration.

There could be some schmutz in the earpiece, if you have access to canned air, you may be able to blow it out. or Do you have a case which may be covering / compromising the earpiece ?

but, that being said, the unit could be defective. They are currently on sale for cheap (under $50.), you may want to look into replacing it, unless you can get a warranty replacement.

... and these are all good tests, also.

Check your fidelity on a call, on speakerphone.

MDK22-I'm on MetroPCS. The other person can hear me very clear.
Harrie-S - I'll try your technique, but, now I think the phone is defective.

Then it's probably not the tower, how's your speakerphone ?
Could be a MetroPCS issue
Is the _ND, North Dakota or Notre Dame ?

edit : never mind Metro is a T-Mobile MVNO (they utilize T-Mobile towers)

Speakerphone is fine, actually. But, once I turn it off then, it's back to, "Huh, what, excuse me". I just tried air and that did not work. ND is for Notre Dame

I agree. It can be replaced or you can try it yourself. Check on internet how to do it
Good luck.

Or give yourself a Christmas present.
