Has anyone moved from an 820 (or 810/822) to the 735? I am tempted by all the positives I'm hearing from reviews etc but I am wary of onscreen buttons, lack of camera button and no glance. The 735 is currently around 149 for an unlocked payg so it's nicely priced compared to the 830 (which is 270-300). Given the internals are the same I'm not convinced the 830 is worth the extra cash. I like the 735 form factor and the screen but can anyone who has moved from the 8** phones comment on how they are finding the 735 given the missing features from their old phone? Glance and camera button are the main blockers for me. Also how does real world performance compare?

Where the Lumia 735 has consistently exceeded my expectations in ways that are delightful, the Lumia 830 has instead not met some of my admittedly unreasonable expectations. The model numbers suggest a natural step up in quality, features and performance from the 735 to the 830, but that's not the case, and in some important ways the Lumia 735 outperforms—or is otherwise better than—the 830. This is confusing, and while it's fair to blame Microsoft for not more obviously differentiating the two in the way I expected—e.g. that the Lumia 830 would be generally "better" than the 735—what we're left with is the current situation. And it goes something like this.

The Lumia 735 and 830 are essentially comparable, technically and functionally, and from a performance perspective. What really differentiates these handsets is a couple of unique features for each, the form factor/body style, and of course the carrier availability that will trump any need to compare them in the first place. What's up in the air is the pricing—still, and that blows my mind—but based on European pricing, the Lumia 830 is more expensive than the Lumia 735 and, I have to be honest here, I'm not sure at all that that is justified. (I expect a no-contract 735 to cost about $300 in the US.)

The killer here, for the Lumia 830, then, is that the things that make the Lumia 735 special will be more generally appealing to people than the things that make the Lumia 830 special. So aside from its lower price, the 735 is indeed the "better" phone. For me, personally, the weird bit is that this is true for me as well. Despite my love of high-end Lumia cameras, I'm sorry, Microsoft, but the Lumia 830 is no Lumia 1020. It's no 1520, Icon or 930 either. It's just not in the same ballpark.
    From Paul Thurott's review
    My own thoughts are below
The closest competitor is the 830. Simply put, the 8XX series offers little value over either the 7XX series or 9XX series. You’re better off getting the 930 unless glance and the SD Card are important to you. If price is what you care about, the 735 is cheaper and has a comfortable design, better screen quality and a sleeker design (subjective).

I can agree with your assestment of the 735 and 830 except for the fact I can't find much of a difference in the asking price. In the US I can only find the 735 on Amazon. The 735 is around 439$, the 830 around 449$ and the 930 about 459$. These are unlocked units but there is almost no difference in the price. I would consider a 735 as a replacement for my 820 (which i like alot), but not at over 400$. I ended up getting a Moto G lte (199$, unlocked) as a backup to my 820 and use both phones. I am starting to really like this setup. But one day I would like to upgrade my 820. But not today and not at the prices they are asking for the 735 and 830.

I don't think 830 worth the extra cash, unless you need/want a better rear camera (much better), capacitive buttons, 8GB extra internal memory and camera button. Probably don't worth for most of people.

730 is a worth upgrade for a Lumia 820 owner, but rear 820 rear camera is slightly better.

What? No way! The camera of the Lumia 735 is MUCH better. Look at the pics in other topic. I switched from 820 to 735 and the pictures are much more beautifull and sharp. The Lumia 820 can really only compete match when shooting close up pics.

I switched a couple of weeks ago. Before I did that, I switched off glance on my Lumia 820 to see if I could do without.
And I can, but I still miss glance now and then. I added camera to quick toggle menu and do not really miss the button anymore. But still would have liked it to have. So yes I would want to have them but I don't miss them.
Everything else I love my Lumia 735. Especially the perfect balance in almost anything. Like width, sceen size, resolution, feel in the hand, great camera, very great battery life. A perfect strike of balance for less money then I paid for my Lumia 820 2 years ago. And of course the default wireless charging.

I don't know. I had a 820, my co worker a 720. Pictures on my 820 almost all the time was better. More detailed and less blurry.
