I know someone that owns this device, the Lumia 822, and let me tell you, this phone is pretty much waterproof!

After helping them dry and restore their phone after an initial drop into some water, I didn't expect it to survive when I powered it on. To my surprise, it did!

Not too long after, they spilled some tea on the device. This time, I expected the phone would most likely die a permanent death, and that they would have to replace it via insurance.

I guessed wrong; the Nokia simply said, "Nope," and it was fully restored after a day of drying. I don't know about other smartphones and how much liquid most of them can survive, but imo, the 822 won a medal...

That's great to hear, but please make sure that your friend keeps his/her 822 away from toilets.

And if he can't do that, he should at least let it take a swim in some Clorox afterward...

    I don't know...
After that it's probably deadly to humans, not to (Nokia) phones.

I dropped mine about 3 times onto a linoleum floor and it didn't even scratch the screen. I was amazed.

Droped my Lumia 820 into toilet, toke battery out. Minute later I put battery back in because i thought it may be ok. I wasn't screen started flashing. So I toke battery back out and placed phone on sun. After 2 or 3 hours i put phone into rice for over night. Next day i tryed to turn phone on and it starrted like nothig happened. That is why I bought Nokia phone :D .

I hope you also bathed it in straight bleach before putting it up to your face.

Dame thing happened to my 928. It was in the water like 1.8 seconds and shook it like it was a red headed step child and put it in some rice. No probe after that and its sealed so I can't take anything out like some of the other nokias.

I had a similar experience. Mine survived three minutes in a laundry machine before I figured out it was in there. I stupidly even turned it on before doing the rice trick with no consequences.

This is probably the best phone I've ever had. It's what makes me want an 830 when/if it comes to Verizon, despite the whining about its 400 chip.
