Recover Data from Bricked / Spinning Cogs Lumia 822?

A co-worker brought her phone in to me today just for fun.

1) I noticed it had an update available (I think she is running the original firmware)
2) I tapped "install" for her and said "silly, always install your updates!"
3) Its been stuck on the spinning cogs ever since
4) Read online about doing a hard reset, about using Nokia Care Suite -- but all of these options seem to erase data.
5) Is there ANY WAY to recover the photos on this before proceeding?
5a) She doesn't remember her Windows Live account login credentials, so we have no way of checking if her photos were being automatically backed up!

Why dont you connect it via USB and back up all the content?

Her photos should have been backed up to skydrive. There are options to get your Windows Live login reset. I guess if she can't reset it, might be a problem. Did you see if the photos are on the micro SD card?
