    Hey!

I bought the Lumia 830 last month in a hurry since i cracked the screen on my Lumia 925, but im starting to wonder how long Microsoft actully will support the Lumia 830? And how will the specs hold up in the future?

I watch the event tonight and didnt hear anything about Windows 10 Mobile for devices other than the 950...

Which 830 version did you buy?

In general, I think the RM-985 will get updates, including W10, from MS. The 983 (ATT) version - who knows, though you can load 8.1U2 on it now. I think for that one, you may have to load W10 on your own.

The 830 is a good phone.

How long support will be? Well lets consider that the 2012 Lumia 920 is still slated for updates, so at least through 2017 I would wager.

Specs-wise, I think your biggest problem would be just missing out on the new/fancier hardware features like Continuum and 4K. I can't see performance going down the tubes anytime soon considering that there are still weaker hardware than the 830 that needs tending to.

I've had mine for almost a year, and I don't see any issue with it lasting another 1 year easily. Quite likely 2.

Windows 10 mobile on this device is questionable, though. We'll need to wait for the "final" release before judgement, but I suspect it will be a few months, at least, before it's stable based on the current state of the preview.

But, support is nothing to worry about. Even if you never go to win10, 8.1 will work fine for quite sometime. There's nothing the 830 needs improved at this point.

The L830 does 2K recording from what I recall.
I read somewhere that 4K video is a hardware limiting feature---usually requiring at least 12mp

It does 1080p, is that 2K?

Nah, 4K, IIRC, is a stream of 8.something MP frames - I believe it just needs hardware that can handle the raw "fire-hose" stream of data.

Yeah the camera needs to record and capture 8mp frames---which the L830 can't do.
    Yes the 2K is 1080p.

Lumia 830 or 930? Flexibility versus Power

    I don't remember where I read about 12mp being a hardware-requirement to begin recording 4K on camera-phones-----but from what I see all of the 4K capable camera-phones have 12-20MP
