Change in manufacturing the L830?

A few months ago I encountered the infamous 'screen peeling off problem'. After sending the device for repair I received a whole new unit in return.
On the second look it became apparent that the metal frame of the returned device differed a lot concerning surface finish and even color.
The phone that went to repair had a deep black and very matte metal finish while the new one's color is much lighter (wouldn't even call it black) and the surface is very smooth.
Did anyone else noticed this?

If its an 830 otherwise, I think I know what happened:

The 830 came in two different metal frames.

A dark grey for AT&T and a silver for the rest of the world. I think you just got a phone that had a different frame at least.

It's for sure a 830 and the frame is not the silver one of the models with the other-than-black color variants.

II noticed it first when I looked at the much more accentuated antenna parts on the upper and bottom frame. Those are actually deep black.
Not so much the frame.
My guess would be, that the problems with the display glass coming off at some handsets initiated a change in finishing the metal frame to which the glass is glued.

Speculating here...maybe refurbished devices have the metal trim assembly refinished with a different method and no polishing to save money or improve grip?

The picture I took today was under 'neutral' light conditions, I'm afraid though it just gives a slight hint to what I'm pointing at.
