I took me a while to configure my new 830 to where I like it.
Waze and Whatsapp were difficult, but persistence paid off.
Now this: I have automatic updates ticked so one was downloaded, but then it wouldn't open. (801883f error message).
Now the lumia camera app won't open. If i press on it, I get a warning- update your phone!
The selfie app is unaffected, go figure.
One reason I got this model was for the good camera.
How do I solve this issue?

Eerily echoes the death of my 830 main camera.

So you gave up on it?
I intend to go back to the store where I bought it and see if they can fix it.
In the meantime I'm using the selfie app as my camera. A little awkward, but it takes photos.

I'm still keeping the 830, as a spare (no SIM) to mess about.
I tried several hard resets (with & without restoring backup) but its futile. Also, running WDRT no longer works as the process always fails. I even took it back to the MSFT shop and the tech guy said it was "problem with the motherboard"

A shame, cos it is a nice device... But on the bright side, I moved to my current 950XL. Seven months later, I'm a happy camper

Hi
problem solved!
I can start the camera app by pressing the dedicated button. I was just playing around and found this works.
The camera app icon on the live tile still doesn't work, but who cares!
