this is kind of a general question. I'm really considering moving over from the iphone which is becoming very boring. I know that if I get the iphone for 500 I'll sell it for 250 (easily) next year when I upgrade. How does this look with WP nokia phones? I don't want to buy a great phone only to find out I lost 40% after the first 3 months or so

I'm planning on getting the lumia 920

The depreciation in the phone price depends on 2 key factors.
    1) Build quality of phone and support from Manufacturer
    2) Backward compatibility of Platoform (Windows Phone OS)

Nokia phones generally have good build quality (no issues there), but the key thing to look here is how well supported is the new Windows Phone 8 platform?
Nokia and Microsoft should maintain backward compatibility for upcoming windows phone OS iterations.
This is the primary reason I got 300 for my iPhone 4 after 1.5 years of use.

It should be not like Lumia 900 series.
