If Lumia 920 is 10% of 808 Pureview in real life

I got Nokia 808 Pureview today and all I can say is flawless!

The camera technology is something out of this world. Top that with OIS, anyone who loves taking those pics and posting on facebook, twitter, or emails - will love Lumia 920 hands down!

I agree the 920 wins, but you should be aware that the 920 version of Pureview doesn't feature oversampling like the 808. However, the combination of OIS and a BSI sensor vs the 808s FSI sensor will mean superior lowlight performance for the Lumia. Sensor size pictures

When you look at the 920 sensor vs a standard sensor, then look at the 808 sensor, its easy to see why the 920 is the way it is.

If Nokia can continue developing the sensors, to bring the 808 sensor down to the size of the 920 one, then maybe we'll see a full pureview phone. As it is too many people moan about the size of the 920. Add a full pureview sensor, it would be the size of a brick.

Or maybe Nokia should stop worrying about the megapixel war, and start using the pureview oversampling to give us better pictures.

For instance most phones are 8megapixel these days.

Most monitors are 1080p these days, and 1080p is just over 2MP. As such, surely pureview could take a 8MP picture, and give us a stunning 1080p image, rather than an average 8MP picture.

Even though the sampling on L920 is inferior the combination they are using seems to work pretty well!

The day they can get this beast in form factor of 920, I will sell my kidney if I had to, to buy that phone.

I've only taken about 2 hours so far, I've taken and loved each and every pic! My photo albums and those moments would look SO much better if I owned this phone since forever! Also, something you might not appreciate - Meego, ain't bad OS at all! It isn't glorified Symbian as some put it.

I'm liking the 808 in past two hours. However, I do miss the "social" aspect of WP each and every second!

It is suggested by most that for photo quality, the print should be around 300 dpi. The 1920x1080 photo that you are suggesting would be best printed at 6.4" x 3.6" you could go for 200 dpi and the maximum size would be 9.6" x 5.4", too much larger and you will have visible pixels and details will look "fuzzy". This is assuming there is no cropping.
So with your suggestion, they would have great 4x6 images, or good 5x7 images, but nothing bigger and no cropping. That's why the 8 megapixel isn't just a race to the top. It allows the user to crop and still print at a decent quality. An 8 megapixel image can be printed 10.88" x 8.16" at 300 dpi and 16.32" x 12.24" at 200 dpi.

Yes, you would be correct that print quality is 300dpi. You've explained the logistics better than me though
