I tried to order a Lumia 920 on AT&T's website twice and both times the order went through but when I checked the status it was "cancelled." I then went to the AT&T store for assistance in ordering the phone and the salesperson, who knew nothing about the Lumia 920, said he could order the phone but I would not get the free charging plate and he recommended I dial 611 on my AT&T phone for assistance. I called AT&T and spoke briefly with a representative who said she was transferring me to someone who could order the phone. After being on hold for a while I got a recording that said there was no one available to assist, gave an 800 number to call later and hung up on me! This was in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. I called back later and was connected with a salesperson who was able to take my order. I had to pay full price for the phone, $449.00, and he had to consult a manager to decide if I could get the charging plate for free. I told him it was advertised on their website and he eventually said he had been given "special permission" to honor the offer. He also said the cyan model, which he insisted was pronounced "cayenne", was back ordered and I could expect it in December. Because of the backorder he was giving me free shipping. I will be surprised if this phone arrives at all.

Just called again trying to give them some verification of people who have gotten the deal. Jessica the supervising manager said the only way people get early upgrades is 30 days close.
She was pretty adamant about that. Then when I said others have gotten it she said that she dosent know what transpired in that call but it's lies. She got quite rude. I've been as polite as possible and these reps and especially managers are calling bs on all of this.

It's quite sad ive explained the whole situation to them. Talked about how I switched over from sprint for better customer service bought 2 launch day lumias and how my line is currently on its 3rd one replacement.

Wow that's just ridiculous, I have witnessed the same malarkey from reps while my g/f was trying, she was even told that there is no way to preorder over the phone lol...its quite saddening how these reps are giving a ****load of crap concerning exceptional upgrades for people

You guys...Thank you all for your stories which encouraged me to stay on the phone with them this morning! I have been calling at least twice since Friday till I got a rep who understood my request.

On my 12th - or so - try, I got a rep who sympathized completely and agreed to do the override (no manager intervention, nothing) and upgrade me for $99. Since I wanted the red which is currently on backorder, she will call me back by the end of the week and honor the override price. She's putting my account on "special treatment" so no one else meddles with it.

And strangely, I actually trust her - she (Anna) is an angel! YAY!

IIRC that is the same rep I got (see: http://forums.windowscentral.com/lumia-920/202283.htm), she said she was in Utah and just got back from vacation. I guess her vacation was good

Just got off the phone with AT&T via 611# and received an early upgrade. Brief history, I have been an AT&T customer for over 10 years. I also have 5 lines of service, 3 of them are smartphones. I did not have an upgrade for any of my smartphones and did not want to add data to another phone. I started my call with the question - if I buy a Lumia 920 off contract will I get the charging plate? He knew nothing about the promo saying that was handled through Premier and not 611 customer service. He said hold on and came back and offered me an early upgrade on one of my non data lines for $199. I again refered him to the website and price of $99.99. He gave me another hold on, he came back and said we could do the $99.99 price and would credit my account $25 for the extra promotion (charging plate, I didn't tell him they were $49.99). I also told him I did not want a data plan added to my account for this upgrade. He said the phone will arrive non activated and to call AT&T when it arrives and they will activate it to the line I want. He also said he would waive the activation fee on this. He assured me that if I activated the phone on a line with data they will not add data to a non data phone. I'm going to try and get greedy when the phone arrives and try for both price match (WalMart) and the charging plate from AT&T. I forgot this, he also waived $9.95 two day shipping. I don't normally get this lucky and can't explain how it happened. Total out of pocket price right now is $81, if I get the price match it should be $31. If I pay for charging plate and receive a credit that will be a push. SO HAPPY I called.

Curious. How do you buy an L900 around April 2012, and have an upgrade due in 2013? I thought early upgrades were 21 months. At least it is for me. Been an AT&T customer since the first time they were AT&T Wireless.

Sent from my Windows 8 device using Board Express Pro

As far as I know, we've always had an upgrade available to use 6 months in advance of the end of contract. We've been with them since 2004, around the time they were still Cingulair, and just started the transition to AT&T Wireless. All the lines that upgrade in April for us are available next year in November like most people are saying. One line is an iPhone and the other is a L900.

I called in to do the preorder. Went that route because of my one line eligible second not status. The trend I'm noticing is long standing customers of at&t seem to have been able to get them to deal in varying degrees.

I'll be one of the latter that hasn't had luck. We've been with them since '04, Premier, and they still don't budge for me :(

well I called, got through to a retention specialist who had to be told "lumia 920" 4 times during our conversation, clearly indicating a phone he knew nothing about. He told me I could do an early upgrade to an iPhone only (lol?)... I really didn't press, because I was really sincere when I told them I was going to port and pay the ETF to T-Mobile unless I could get a 920 (and would reluctantly extend with AT&T another 2 years). So tomorrow I port and get my 810 instead.

Had some luck last night through chat.

Spoked to 4 different girls, kept getting transferred. Finally the fourth just went ahead and processed the upgrade. No questions asked other than shipping info, cc info, color, etc. Didn't have to get her manager or anything.

As of now my cc hasn't been charged and there are no orders placed in my AT&T account. I'm hoping this is due to the demand for these things.

With that said for those of you who don't have time to call or aren't comfortable calling or waiting on hold, chat may be an option for you.

Yes, sorry. I should have put that info.

$99 price. Not sure if my contract is extended, I'm assuming it is which is perfectly fine with me. AT&T has been great for me. Wireless charger should be included, rep said it was on a first come, first serve basis. If I get it sweet, if not, no biggie.

My upgrade eligibility date was 9/21/13. So next September.

You have to accept the terms and conditions before they process ur order. They should have told you that

An update on my situation: I got impatient and called AT&T back last night to try again. Instead of calling the 888 number the first rep gave me on Wednesday, I called 611 from my phone. I told the rep (Rebecca in South Dakota) I was calling to request an exception upgrade for the 2 900s on my family plan and she put them through at the 2-year contract price with no hesitation. She didn't need to ask a manager or anything, she even waived the upgrade fees! It's simply amazing how you can have two vastly different customer service experiences dealing with AT&T. My only recommendation to those who are having issues is to keep trying until you get someone who is willing to help. Right now both orders are showing as pending shipment, fingers crossed.

Also, I asked her about the wireless charger but she didn't have any info on it. If we don't receive them, we'll just go to a retail store and see if we can get them.
Hey so what was the reasoning you gave for asking for the upgrade? I called and said that I was disappointed that i wasn't getting the software upgrade and that my phone that i bought 6 months (Lumia 900 at launch) is out of date. I told her that I was told in store that my phone would recieve all future updates like the iphone. She offered to give me a 100 dollar credit but that was it.

What was your reasoning when you asked for the early upgrade?

I'd take the $100. At that point you are only $150 away from the Lumia 920 anyway!

Just by two cents where it probably wasn't needed lol.

I saw a couple people mention the numbers but not specifically the deal. I bought the 4s last year on launch and wasn't eligible until next may. Tried calling once or twice and even went into the store to see if they would give me the 99$ upgrade early.

For me this is what they did. I payed $350 for the device, but got to walk out with the phone plus $250 dollars worth of merchandise including gift cards. Is that the same deal others are talking about when referring to the "$99+$250" deal? Seemed pretty good to me since I got a screen protector, case, sweet headphones and a buttload of iTunes giftcards to use for holiday gifts :)

Sorry for the delay in responding. The second rep I called didn't ask for a reason. When she asked what she could help me with, I said I was calling to request an exception upgrade to the new device. I told her I had called earlier in the week and the rep told me to call back because at that time they weren't able to enter pre-orders in customer service, they were only being done online.

I would say keep trying until you get someone who will do it for you, AT&T is so inconsistent it's ridiculous. This isn't the first time I've gotten an early upgrade from them, so it is definitely possible.
