To all my fellow Lumia 920 users that think the phone is awesome but falls short because of battery life:
First of all, I really hesitated to open this thread. If you're reading this forum on a regular basis you will have noticed lots and lots of threads like this. But since I had really bad experiences with my battery, I thought it could be beneficial to other useres if I share my observations.
When I got my phone I did not notice a huge battery drain in the beginning. I was at my parents' house for christmas and headed home to Austria right after New Years Eve. When I got there I soon had terrible issues concerning my battery. It was so bad that one time it drained from 100 to 0 in just three hours(!). I did soft resets, hard resets and tried to calibrate the battery. Nothing worked the least bit. It was so depressing that I decided to send it in and have it repaired (I hoped they'd just give me a new one). When it got back it was just like before. I experienced minimum consumption rates of 10%/h while being at home. But there was one thing that I thought was kind of interesting...
I often left my appartment while having huge battery consumption rates. I soon noticed that the drainage would stop very often when I wasn't at home. How was that possible?
I decided to give the phone a last chance and was eager to locate the problem. First I put the phone in flight mode. I thought if the battery drains with no connections and no apps communicating at all, the case would be hopeless. After a few minutes the consumption rate was near zero. After that I put on the wifi connection (everything else off). The battery still worked very well on a 1%/h rate. I put on mobile data after that in 3g mode. After that the battery went down like before, really bad. I decided to try a 2g connection and experienced a huge improvemen (2%/h). Now it is time to develope a thesis:
1. At my parents' house I had no issues at all using 3g
2. Most of the time I had no issues while not at home using 3g
3. I experienced the most terrible drain when the phone was on my desk or in my bedroom
4. My phone got freakin' hot while using the charging plate at my desk
Observation: The 3g signal is very weak at my desk and in my bedroom. There is nearly no signal.
Thesis: The battery will drain a lot if 3g is activated, there is a signal, but it's very weak.
At home I now activate 2g and wifi and my battery life is awesome. I have easily 24h of battery without recharging. The next step for me is to buy some nfc tags. I want to place them at the entrance and I want them to put my phone in 2g. When I leave the house I will place another one that will put in 3g mode.
Like I said before, there are so many battery threads on this board and each of them offers different solutions. Maybe there are a few people with some time on their hands who could try to support my thesis or raise doubts on it. If sharing my experience would only help a handfull of people I'd be very happy.
