I've just realised that my phone does not have the latest Lumia 920 firmware despite downloading Portico a few weeks ago. I thought the Nokia firmware was supposed to download with Portico?

Has anybody ever received a separate update notification for this?

My OS version is: 8.0.10211.204
My Firmware revision number is: 1232.2110.1244.3011

It's an EE 920 btw.

The original notification I got for my Unbranded 920 included a "NOKIA Update" in addition to the 4 Microsoft Updates. Have you tried manually checking for updates?

No I haven't updated it yet. I've been checking manually through the setup menu, but it keeps saying my phone is up to date.

Is yours an EE 920 too?

OS: 8.0.10211.204
Firmware 1232 5951 1249 1002

How to manually check the firmware update? Is it the same as OS update?

Been going through the same crisis. Bought the lumia 920 from phones4u on pay as you go, but locked to EE,Orange & T-Mobile. Got it unlocked last week though.

I had bought my Lumia 920 from Phones4U (UK) - SIM free, then found out that it was locked to EE, so unlocked it and I'm on the TescoMobile(O2) contract and as such, the phone still shows EE as provider. But it is under TescoMobile. My OS version is 8.0.9903.10 and Firmware Revision #: 1232.2110.1244.3011

I had only once, had a phone update, but unfortunately, I did not check to see what were the firmware numbers then. However, when I was looking for the Beta version of Nokia "Play To" to download, I found out that the firmware has to be a higher version, i.e. something like 1232.5k... I tried to update mine, but it comes back after checking with "your phone is up to date, checked 2 seconds ago". So I called Phones4U, to see if they know anything about it. The technical help said that they rolled out a new version (which i presume it must have been portico), but they had to roll it back as it has caused signal as well as call cut-offs and freezes. So they are not rolling it out till Nokia releases a fix.

So, according to Phones4U, my phone is up to date! But I am still suffering from heating issues on media playback (super hot!) and also battery life, which lasts about 7-8 hours!
A friend of mine bought his 920 from Vodafone, and his version was 1232.5k.. type, and it worked for good 24 hours on one charge. However, after 4 days he returned it, due to call drop outs and screen freeze on screen pull up on the On-Off screen! So I guess, it is lucky that I'm still on the older firmware! I hope Nokia/MS sort this out quick as the battery is really testing my patience... I am admiring the news of the Galaxy S4 coming out, when I can't do the basic with this one!

nothing wrong with the OS or firmware. Its a corrupted installation that's all. You can DIY or of course, you can return it if you prefer. But with a corrupted firmware install, 80% of the time even after you upgrade to the next version it will still carry the bad blood over. People really need to learn to treat smart phone like a PC.

"Nothing wrong with the OS or firmware" Really! I advise to followed up the post Portico forum here!
Anyhow, on what basis you argue that it might be corrupted firmware, when it is what the Phone company says is the latest stable version? Also, what firmware have you got and which location please?

However, assuming that there is some issues with the current firmware (i.e. not letting new version to be installed), is there a safe/tested way of DIY, that wouldn't turn this little beauty into a brick?

Most of these the follow up post does not even know whats going on. Some kind people, which I am not one of them, gave the solution and even wrote a complete manual thread but then not many people actually take action or else giving excuse like "it is dishonest to flash the phone" or "I do not want to void warranty".

Anyways, If you are willing to give it a try, find any of them which match your preference language and country. It should work just fine.
However, there is a good possibility you may brick your phone. But you can always force a flash on bricked phones, which I never encounter a phone that cannot be "unbricked".
It is VERY IMPORTANT to have at least 70% battery, a stable USB connection and a stable power source to your pc. Interruption should be avoid at all cost!
For starter this may take you hours to prepare and operate, but this is the beauty of buying a Nokia product.

If you are unfamiliar to tohis kinda of operation, please do cnsider to let the service center to do it for you. Its the most common operation for a technician and they will be doing exactly the same thing as describe in the manual thread.

what is the latest version of the nokia firmware? i have os 8.0.10211.204 which from my understanding is portico. my firmware is 1232.5951.1249.0001 so it isn't the newest because other members are reporting higher numbers. is there a way to physically check for a new firmware and upload it somehow to the phone?

i have the 1232.5951.1249.0001 firmware and the battery life is decent. i mean discharge is like 2% when screen is off (wifi, location, and data on but i dont have a sim card in). during game play it drains at around 40% an hour for heavy gaming.

The latest properly offered firmware is 1232.5951.1249.xxxx so your phone is up to date.

From this thread there has been a new firmware on navifirm, but it's not being pushed out yet and you'll have to manually flash it.

Update on my situation - I contacted Nokia Care on twitter and they could only advise I visit one of their stores to have my phone looked at. I don't have one local to me so I just flashed it instead using the instructions in the sticky.

Losing my save games was a bummer though.

Glad you got it the first time. Welcome to the true Nokia family! :)
