Hello,

I am flying to Germany in a month and while Nokia drive, or HERE Drive, with its offline capability is great, I was wondering what data speed I would get if the 920 would be theoretically unlocked and a local sim card is in place with data plan? I would assume that LTE is not available but how about UMTS speeds?

I don't know much about these bands and frequencies, so, I appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Most, if not all of Europe uses UMTS band 2100 for 3G data and the Lumia 920 also has that band in the radio so it should work fine. You'll get 3G data speeds up to 42Mb/s depending on the carrier you choose.

Some carriers are also using the 900 band - the 920 also supports that so you should be golden.

Thanks, woodbane, do you know if the Lumia 900 supports the same bands?

Thanks a lot. You made my day.

The 900 supports the following bands:
WCDMA Band V 850
WCDMA Band II 1900
WCDMA Band I 2100

It's missing the 900 band that the Lumia 920 has but it would seem like almost all of Europe uses the 2100Mhz band for 3G so I think you'll be OK.

Thanks again. I just read that o2 in Germany uses the following:

O2

Net Frequency: GSM 1800 (+EGSM 900), W-CDMA 2100

I guess that means that I should be okay with the Lumia 900 but better with the 920. I doubt I get the 920 unlocked by att until then.

The 900 will be fine.
