Screen setup

Im brand new to windows phone but liking everything so far, but its not really a issue just a thought, but under the clock why is there such a big gap until the tiles start, why cant the make the most of the big screen and move the tiles up so they stop just under the clock!!!

I wonder why as well but I'm not bothered by it.
