Ok, so let me start with this. I am an app developer, and I use a developer Lumia 920. (It has “Developer device Not for Sale” engraved at the bottom of the screen.
So I received my Dev Kit 920 via DHL, when I opened the box, the Lumia 920 had fine scratches on the digitizer, as if it was used. Secondly, the device started overheating really badly when I deploy my 3D game to it. At one point, it overheated REALLY badly and when I picked it up when it was charging, it was EXTREMELY HOT and I dropped it, making the left corner of the polycarbonate body out of shape. Then the problems keep going. The Wireless charging doesn’t work. The NFC fails to work at all. Once when I charged it overnight, the device reset itself and failed to turn on. I had to soft reset the device and the date and time reset to 1st September 2012 and the time to 12:47pm and the region changes to US. The reset problem happens nearly everyday since the overheating issue drains the battery. Dust also got into the Front Camera and proximity sensor. After a week or so of this, I decided to go to my local Nokia Care Center. I first headed to the Nokia Care Center at Causeway Point. There was only one person at the counter and the ticketing machine was not turned on. I approached the counter in which the Indian CSO was seemingly watching videos on the PC! I asked him if I could repair my phone. He took one look at the “Not for Sale” tag and immediately claimed that they cannot repair the device as it was a prototype. I was shocked at his statement. I then told him this was sent by Nokia themselves. He then claimed that he cannot do the repair as the device is not running retail software and has no warranty and it will cost me and even if they do the repair and the phone corrupts, I would have to bear the cost. I was shocked. That meant that I would pay for MY phone if they corrupts it. He also claimed he was just following protocol. I was shocked as previously, my other developer device needed repairs and he was the SAME guy who refused to repair mine at the HarbourFront care center and I went to the Causeway Point outlet which did the repairs hassle-free. He wasn’t even looking at me 80% of the time, he was looking at his computer! Fed up with the crappy service I received, I hopped on a bus to go to the Nokia Care Center in HarbourFront, hoping even if I can’t get a repair, I could get a better and clearer explanation. When I reached there, a VERY friendly guy served me and entered down my IMEI into the system. He got a little shocked as he found out that my device was from Finland but he understood that it was a developer device sent by Nokia and helped me. He told me to sign some paperwork and told me that they will be loaning me a lumia 800 to use while my phone was at repairs. During that time I could not develop my games further. At around 1845hrs 3 days later, received an SMS that stated I could collect my device. I rushed over to the HarbourFront outlet and reached there with 15 minutes to spare. I was yet again served by the same friendly CSO who remembered me and quickly returned my device. When I collected my device, I was devastated to find out that only the dust in the front camera and proximity sensor was fixed. I tried restoring the backup but within 3 minutes, the device overheated and shut off after its 70% remaining battery died. Not only don’t I have any device to test my game, but I cannot continue with the development of my game as my OS does not support the emulator. I can’t even run the game for 5 minutes before my device overheats. Please Nokia, help me with this. WORST SERVICE EVER from Causeway Point. Repair failed. Now, I’m back to square one. I started this blog to tell everyone about my experience. I spent 5 hours travelling from store to store for apparently no reason. This is what they call “Excellent Service”. I’m even thinking about ceasing development for Windows Phone altogether.
