I think the lumia 920's camera could be better if it was faster to focus and capture. What do you guys think. I just feel like is slow to capture those moments with my kids.

Use the dedicated camera button to capture snaps (especially those of kids as they have too much energy and keep moving around) instead of using the tap feature. This will be much faster than the tap feature.
Imho - this is the best camera phone.

i also find the focus and capture to be a little slower than ideal, as mention to get those MOMENT shots. I have the default settings though, so that may also be the problem.

You get amazing low light pics BECAUSE the shutter speed is slower. It's a trade off I think. Overall, I feel the 920 has the best phone camera on the planet (aside from the 808).

I also agree with you guys on the shutter being so slow, nokia should take in consideration that the phone has an ambient light sensor and define whether to use slow shutter or fast shutter for those moment pictures.

Key here is focus and shoot. Other platforms have constant refocus, so you can instantly snap an in-focus shot whenever you tap the shutter button. This is a problem with the camera app, which is far too basic and has gone essentially unchanged since 2010. (Lenses are a method to launch complementary imaging apps, not an improvement to the camera app itself.)

Another helpful tip: Use SPORTS MODE! It increases shutter speed! Trust me!

Try using an app like Proshot. You can manually focus on subjects and the take photos instantly.

it already does this...how do you think it gets low light shots?
Check the exif data of your pictures and you will see the shutter speed varies.

You may be thinking of capture speed, how long it takes to take a photo? This has nothing to do with shutter speed, it is software/hardware dependent.
