Turning off Lumia 920 when charging

New to WP8 coming over from iphone. Really enjoying the WP.
There has been a learning curve but i expected that.
Wondering is it normal for the phone to stay on when charging
even if i have shut down the phone. Tried it both ways and the
phone keeps booting back up when charging. Or is the phone
just designed to stay on 24/7....

It is normal. The phone turns on when you start to charge it. A lot of phones today work that way.

yup I think you'll need to install (connectivity shortcuts) in which you can pin the flight mode settings on your live tiles screen for easy access.

If it bothers you fully charge your phone then power it down. I do that about twice a week
