A simple question about Glance on 920.

Does the long term use of Glance take any negative effect on the screen?

I'm kinda obsessed with phone care and this question came up to my head when I realized that Glance is permanently on when you charge the phone.

Yep, I'd call that obsessed. :) but if you are talking about burn in, I wouldn't worry about that. The clock is not stationary.

I won't use it in my 920 because our phones are back lit, and glance stays on when charging.
With any other Lumia, beside 520-620, the Amoled screens are much more suited for glance.

Is it true that with the glance screen on the lumia 920.....the brightness is at like 1%???

In a way, does it kill bulb life?....anyways, I don't think anyone would be keeping their L920 by the time the bulb dies....itll either be damaged, sold off for something newer....etc.

I don't know about percentage of bulb use. I believe with LCD screens, its either on or off, dimness or brightness may not effect lifetime of the screen.

    LCD? Harmless.
AMOLED? Clock only and you keep it out of your pocket for more than 15 minutes at a time? Harmless.
    Use peek?
Just a bit of harm after two years.
    Use just one background?
Send help. Use as many as possible.

From what I can tell from some reading on the internet, increased brightness decreases the longevity of LCD displays, so logically a very dim screen like the glance screen should be less taxing on the display. Anyway, the determining factor of the lifetime of a LCD display is the backlight, and the longevity quoted for LED TV displays tend to be between 50.000 and 100.000 hours untill you are at 50% of the brightness.

If we assume the lower number and keep the screen on for 24/7, this would net you close to 6 years of constant use of the screen, discounting the fact that the screen is turned off when it's in your pocket for example. Obviously the battery is a by far more limiting factor when it comes to your Lumia 920:s longevity and pretty much everyone will exchange it before the screen is the limiting factor.

Don't believe anyone here can answer that question accurately. Besides, at the end of the day who cares? When my current contract is up I ill take my L920 throw it a box and never look at it again until I either throw it away, or give it away.

The screen should last longer than you own the phone. I bet it would last longer even if you own the phone for a decade.

Someone asked the same question many years ago when I owned my Sony Ericsson K750i. It had the same feature and it never hurt anyone's phone. And that was about 8 years ago or more.

Don't worry! It won't hurt anything!
