Switching to T-Mobile...Question?

After T-Mobile's announcement that they will be paying early termination fees I will be switching from AT&T. I have had AT&T for over a year now and have had service issues as well as terrible customer service.....so ADIOS!

This announcement is the final push for me to leave AT&T as I previously had T-Mobile for four years a little while ago and always had excellent customer service.
I will be sad to leave AT&T only for one reason...they get all the new Windows Phones first but that fact alone cannot keep me with them.

My question is that I currently have two phones on my Plan: The Lumia 920 and the HTC 8X, to switch those to T-Mobile I will have to get the phones unlocked...correct?
How do I go about doing this and how much will this cost?

I am pretty sure in order to get T-Mobile's deal where they pay early termination fees you have trade your current phones into T-Mobile. I could be wrong but I remember reading that in an article. I would check the details of it with T-Mobile.
