Is it safe to change firmware?

Hi I just got a simple question how safe is it to flash another firmware in a a nokia 920?
I'm asking because even today in my country (Argentina) my mobile operator have not released the black update (but with the dev program I'm using the GDDR3)
Has anybody done it? May I restore the original firmware, if something goes wrong?
I've got everything that is needed (Nokia Care Suite and my country variant firmware), just need courage xD
