Replaced Digitizer, new problems

I didn't want to revive an old thread, but here is what I've been watching for the past week: http://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-920/212977-lumia-920-digitizer-replacement.html

I bought a new digitizer screen off eBay and asked if they had any quality problems. Obviously they said no. The digitizer arrives, and I get started on the installation. By the time I noticed small tiny "bubbles" on the digitizer, it was too late to box the damn thing because my old screen was beyond shattered by the time I took it off.

I went ahead and installed it and now the display has got a "rainbow effect" on it. A user on the thread I linked to mentioned I had to peel off a plastic screen, but I'm not sure what he's talking about as the old screen I had had a plastic cover as well... I'm kind of stuck, anyone able to help me out?

It sounds like there's a very thin plastic film covering the digitizer itself, similar to the kind of plastic films you get when you buy a new phone. If you can see an edge to this film, peel it off and your rainbow issue should be fixed. It'd be helpful if you could take some pictures of the screen as you describe and maybe the edge of the digitizer so we can help you find out if it is a film or a poorly made digitizer.

It's probably a non OEM digitizer that you purchased off of ebay. I made a similar poor choice and after replacing said aftermarket digitizer with the real OEM product via etradesupply.com the end result is perfect. My suggestion is buy the OEM digitizer/screen combo and save some effort.

@Muessig: I will definitely upload a video soon on the issue
@fpostrow: I spoke with the merchant on ebay on sending me another one. They said they will so I guess we will see what the next one is

Also an added update: I notice when I press the home button several times in a row it'll start acting as the back button. sometimes during charging, the magnifying glass will mistakenly sense being touched so cortana ends up being relaunched over and over.

Swipe to text doesn't seem to be as good anymore as I'll occasionally be swiping a word and my digitizer will forget my fingers are still on the phone for a split second and end up creating two unintended words for me...

It's probably a non OEM digitizer....

Be careful what you read on the Internet, it may not be true. Having said that I just went back and checked my previously replaced digitizer and guess what? Their was a thin plastic screen cover on the inside of the digitizer which once removed, got rid of the rainbow effect seen in your video. I would check that before sending back. The other problems may be unrelated, or related. In my case, they were not.

Update: now that the rainbow effect is gone, some defective non-OEM symptoms remain like when placed on a wireless charging pad the screen freaks out and jumps around. Yea, still better off going with the OEM Digitizer/Screen combo unit in the end.

Yes!! My screen DOES jump around when placed on a plate! It'll also die randomly, or sometimes the buttons stop working.

I'm going to place my order for an OEM digitizer now...

My phone is literally losing its mind right now - I can't tell if it's because the software or the digitizer ruining my software. The touch comes in and out, sometimes doesn't want to respond or the phone freezes and hangs...I frequently soft reset but the phone will hang on the AT&T logo

Ok guys, update on my phone.

over the past few days, my touch becomes unresponsive, hangs, and the phone screen freezes while I'm operating it. Sometimes the digitizer will act on its own, the back/start/search buttons act on their own. It usually takes a couple soft resets to correct the issue. However, as of lately, soft resets don't correct the issue. ANd as a result of the digitizer being unresponsive, I can't control the phone.

Furthermore, my phone is now at a point where it crashes 30 seconds after start up. As a result, the phone freezes and won't accept a charge. Not accepting a charge means my phone is pretty much dead right now because I can't get it to work for more than 30 seconds after a soft reset on the charger.

Did the digitizer fry anything else in my Lumia 920 or do I need to change out the digitizer ASAP??

Does it HAVE to be the OEM digitizer AND screen? Cause my LCD is still perfect and I'd hate to spend three times as much if I don't have to.

Update on my phone.

Ordered the "OEM" part off eBay and now everything works like a charm. However, my repair specialist pointed out the flaws in the new digitizer and demonstrated it wasn't a real OEM part. Regardless, you're better off ordering from someone who claims it's OEM, it might just be a really good quality fake.
