hello there.

I recently got myself a 925 and im a little puzzeld about few things regarding the Glance screen / glance background app
tried looking for a place to ask regarding the app itself but didnt find any so i'll ask here instead, hoping someone could shed some light on the matter.

the problem i have with glance backgrounds is the interlacing of images that happens.
any default image of the app does NOT exhibit this issue so i know it's possible to draw using all pixels on the screen ,but any custom image loaded on glance background automatically interlaces
(every second vertical row of pixels is blank)

is this just a feature of the app or am i doing something wrong here ?
tried using 32bit, 16 bit, 8 bit and 2 bit (2 color) images, various image formats and they all do the same.

why are users not allowed to make backgrounds without interlacing as it is clearly possible seeing the default images of the app do not exhibit this behavior ? (the glance clock also is not interlaced)

any help would be fine.

ps. i do realize this has to do with screen burn and battery usage and whatnot, but i dont really care about any of that, if i get burns, i'll just buy a new screen for the phone :p
i rather it's pretty than lasts me forever.

That's pretty weird, haven't seen that ever happen on my 925. Is the image interlaced when you set it up as the background in the glance background app ? If its not, then the problem is not with the image. I'd suggest uploading a picture of your glance screen here, can't really tell how bad the interlacing is, also upload the original image you're using. Try different images or try reinstalling the glance background app.

i've tried reinstalling the app and using various images with various sizes, which none affect this issue at all.
only non-interlaced outputs i get are the defaults of the application.

the picture doesnt deinterlace on the preview either, only when it's actually used.

here's a few photos and one of the exact images i use as a glance background.

the tiger is an app default, which works great.
the other one however, not so great :(

here's just one more from very close, from this one it's easy to see how every second row is simply blank.

forgive the image quality in general, photographing pixels is hard :p

changed images to urls since they're so huge :p

Sorry for the delayed response, but if you ask me, it looks like the problem is with your picture and the way glance works, definitely not your screen. I had some pictures that I wanted to set as glance background, but some parts just show up empty when I use them as the glance background. I downloaded your original image and got the same problem, so your screen should be alright. I'm not an expert when it comes to photos but I'm pretty sure that when the original photo is being converted to the glance photo, it loses some details that make it look interlaced like that. You can't really change how glance works, so all you can do is change the picture I guess, or you could Photoshop the shadow on left side of her face, that's gonna change the picture somewhat though. I would say try the clone stamp tool, you can use paint.net which is free if you don't have adobe, then make the shadowy part of her face the same as the part on the right side.

could you give me an image that works for you as a glance ?

i've tried using photos, downloaded images and pretty much anything i can think of, and none ever work
every picture will always interlace no matter what kind of image it is.

i even tried using a solid white image, which also doesnt work, every second row of pixels is always black, so it becomes striped.

what version of glance background are you using ?

im on Glance background: V 1.0.1.1
phone FW: 3047.0000.1326.2001

I am using the same version of glance. Most custom photos I use don't work well, but there is one that works fine so I'll send that to you soon when I get back home. Using this on my phone right now. I'll also try photo shopping the image you gave me and see if it works then.

Since its a glance screen topic, I just want to ask is there a way to see on your glance screen if you have new sms and unanswered calls? Seeing only time isnt useful to me..

figured it has something to do with the screen. Never thought it's faulty, more like im just doing something wrong :p

another great job done nokia. buy better phone, get inferior functionality <3
what really pisses me off the most is that the default images dont interlace.
it's like a great F**K YOU AMOLED USERS from the developer. Want your own pictures ? well, enjoy them with INTERLACING !

guess there's no way to disable the interlacing from an amoled device ?
