So, does the Lumia 925 need a contract? Right now, I'm rocking a Lumia 520 (Go Phone) and want to upgrade to something better. I don't want a contract, but still want a way to text, use the web, and make phone calls with it. Thanks.

Well, it doesnt "need" a contract per se. A Phone contract is simply a discount on the purchase of a new phone ($99 instead of $500) that your carrier pays for in return for your agreement to stay with them for 2 yrs (or so). Where do you live? Some countries do this and some dont. I can tell you that if you 925 is less than 400 usd it has a contract.

You mentioned about text, data ect features too. Did you mean do you have to sign a contract to have these features? Check with your carrier. The short answer to your question is, No, the 925 doesnt need a contract techically to function, but the price you pay and what your carrier is offering will determine if it needs one or not.

I live in the US, Shreveport, Louisiana. Since the Lumia 925 doesn't require a contrct, I was also hoping to get the same bill as my current phone ($60/Monthly) for the Lumia 925.

You might want to check out the Marketplace forum here on WPCentral. There might be someone selling a 925. If you buy a device from someone, you definitely will not need a contract. You'll just need to make sure that you get a device that is branded to AT&T or unlocked.

You can buy any phone at full retail if you don't want to be locked into a contract. Contracts are only required if you purchase a subsidized device (the price generally advertised by most US carriers) or lease the device (monthly payments on T-Mobile or with AT&T Next).

So I could buy a brand spanking new Lumia 925 and get it working the same day without a contract and pay $60 a month just like my Lumia 520 plan? The "Buy It Now" button is right here in front of me ready to be smashed. Thanks for the replies.

P.S. I'm a noob with cellphone talk as I just started using them last year in December.

That depends on where that "buy now" button is! If you're looking at the price being only like a hundred bucks, you'll be signing a contract. If it's quite a bit more, than you're good to go. Just take the sim card out of your 520, pop it in the 925, and you're good to go.

I sent out some details in your PM in case if you are looking for one to use with AT&T plans.

Buy Nokia Lumia 925 for AT&T - Microsoft Store

This is a pretty good option. If you're on ATT's network you can use this. You can also use it on straight talk with an ATT sim for 49/month 4gb of LTE until it's throttled and unlimited talk text and data.
