I was having a look at Nokia US' website and determining the specs for the 928.

Nokia Lumia 928 - Specifications - Nokia - USA

For the data networks the site lists:

  • Data Network
    • CDMA network bands: 2, 5
    • CDMA max data speed DL: Rev 0 /A 2.4 Mbps /3.1 Mbps
    • CDMA max data speed UL: Rev 0 /A 153.2 kbps /1.8 Mbps
    • GSM network: 1800 MHz, 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz
    • GSM max data speed DL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps
    • GSM max data speed UL: EGPRS 236.8 kbps
    • LTE max data speed DL: 100 Mbps
    • LTE max data speed UL: 50 Mbps
    • WCDMA network: 900 MHz, 1700 - 2100 MHz, 2100 MHz, 1900 MHz, 850 MHz
    • WCDMA max data speed DL: HSDPA - 42.2 Mbps
    • WCDMA max data speed UL: HSUPA - 5.76 Mbps

According to that it does list the AWS 1700-2100 bands built into the phone and one can assume that it is pentaband. Hopefully that is true as it would mean good news for those on T-Mobile in the US, or Wind and Mobilicity in Canada.

I compared it to the specs of the 8X which is also on Verizon and pentaband and the frequencies seem similar. I guess the best way would be for someone to get the phone, unlock it and test it out with a Wind, Mobilicity or T-Mo sim car.

isn't that quad band because they're only 4 GSM bands listed? as far as i know there isn't a single phone that's CDMA and penta band.

I tried my T-Mobile simcard in the lumia 928 and I got 3G service intermittently , with a AT&T simcard I got 3G and HSDPA but I wasn?t able to browse the internet.

Surprisingly, I couldn`t modify the APN settings, not sure what?s causing it.

I tried the apn app from nokia and it didn't work. I think the apn app needs to be updated or the rom on the phone just dont allow it.

I have the same problem with the nokia 822, ever since nokia release the new firmware , the apn settings are now messed up.

Regarding your question: The term penta-band describes a device that supports five frequency bands: 850, 900, 1900, 2100 and 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz bands.

Technically, that's a pentaband CDMA device. It's also a quadband GSM device.

Nokia received permission from the FCC: ID QMNRM-860 (Approved Feb 22, 2013) for an in the field software upgrade that would enable LTE band 4 (UL 1710-1755 Mhz, DL 2110-2155 MHz) on the Lumia 928. I contacted Nokia Care and received the following reply.

"I hope for your kind understanding as for now, there is no such information available in our end regarding the radio software upgrade enabling AWS on the Lumia 928." Josh (10:07:56)

I have posted on the Nokia Discussions forum concerning this and will post any responses I get here.

im a bit confused here, it support the LTE bands 700, 1700 and 2100, but currently Verizon only uses band 700, so 1700 and 2100 are disabled? Im using mine at another carrier and it supports 2G/3G just fine as I expected looking at the bands, but now my carrier started rolling out LTE sim cards and have some LTE coverture so I was wondering why I haven't seen my phone on LTE yet, they are using 1700-2100, maybe is not enabled on my 928? who has to update the firmware in order to activate it? Verizon or nokia?
