So I was looking online at the update log for Windows 8 and I noticed the OS number that exists on my phone has an asterisk next to it. Does anyone know what this means?

    OS #: 8.0.10521.155

Sorry, but I don't see an asterisk next to the OS# in the screenshot.

No, on MS's site it has an asterisk next to the OS number

It means that the OS version is subject to manufacturer and carrier. For example my ATIV S has 8.0.10517.150 as the OS version number but others may have 8.0.10521.155 they are essentially both GDR3 it's just that the 10521 version probably has some fixes that the 10517 version doesn't.

I think there are different numbers based on whether it was a developer black update or the stock Verizon update.

That has nothing to do with it, it's down to the manufacturers which version they use. Read the "small print" on the where's my update website!!!
