Trip to Kelburn country park today, used the NX more but the 930 delivered some nice pics

Were these taken with all auto default settings?

Although the 930 and the S5 have similar sensor size, and image resolution, the S5 has one very major camera hardware omission - optical image stabilization. This makes a huge difference when taking pictures in lowlight.

This kind of stuff you should be able to pull off with 930. These are taken with 1520 running Cyan firmware, sorry about that :sweaty:

All taken with Auto settings apart from white balance and longer shutter speed on the waterfall pic

This kind of stuff you should be able to pull off with 930. These are taken with 1520 running Cyan firmware, sorry about that :sweaty:

I genuinely can't understand peoples dismay at the fact you can manually alter specific camera settings to suit different environmental factors. Surely it is a benefit. I have taken great auto-setting pictures which I find very acceptable, but under certain conditions, I revel in the fact I can manually adjust all settings, and get cracking photos. Such as the above and those I've posted on PAGE 6. linkhttp://forums.windowscentral.com/nokia-lumia-930/286159-6.htm#post2651329

In Pro Shot you can even set up 2 custom profiles, so let's say 1. for indoors 2. for outdoor night time.

Putting an end to the whole thing, I think most people are discouraged by the auto settings on the CAMERA app? (or Nokia cam app too). I can't think why. I think the natural sharpening of the image using oversampling is much better than some phones which use a sharpening filter. In my opinion the sharpening filter in some of the competitors phones looks unreal. On the 930 I think it takes good auto-setting photos, they're acceptable to me, but in time I'm sure we'll see further improvements to please everyone.

Now if your the average joe/jane that wants decent point and click, you can achieve this on the 930, but you can delve alot deeper into camera settings to get some mind blowing photos. Some phones don't even let you change 1 setting, its all auto all the time, which going back to the average joe/jane, its what the average consumer wants, but being a consumer myself I think this is very limiting.

So in all the 920/930/1520 and other manually configurable phones aren't for everyone, but those of us that enjoy tinkering with settings, as you can see from many of the photo's in this thread, these phones do take some of the best images from a smartphone. If you don't want to change settings and have fun capturing photo's, you can go with one of the competitors, they will hold your hand. (That's not to say other smartphones don't allow manual settings, alot of them do)

Can you help to take a couple of lowlight photos with the 920 and 930, both under the following same conditions?
1. Same ISO and similar brightness. The shutter speed may vary to keep things in balance, but should not exceed 1s to avoid motion blur.
2. Same shutter speed and similar brightness. The ISO may vary to keep things in balance.

Those photos are taken with 100-ISO and shot times ranged from 1.6 to 0.5 seconds but no tripod was used, just holding phone steady and OIS took care of rest. You can check how photos look on auto settings from same scene from this folder https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=A7E6EC70CBC020D7&id=A7E6EC70CBC020D7!2015 lots of grain on those. There is also photos taken with Black firmware at the beginning. You can spot easily which ones are taken with Cyan firmware.

Its all about using manual settings at such low light situations. Just learn to use them and you start enjoying taking beautiful low light photos.

A sad flower, sad weather, but I had to test the camera under these conditions it's not really edited, I just set the white balance and had to compress it a lot.. does anyone know the file size limit for uploading a picture here?
