Due to these reported issues, I've half a mind to invest in an 830 instead, and upgrade to 930's successor if/when it arrives.

Honestly that's the wisest thing to do. I have had three different 930's all of them plagued with problems. Microsoft just replaces the phone and does nothing to try and see what's wrong with the units that are sent back. I've got tired of replacing 930's and have simply ditched the phone (and WP) altogether.
I now use the third 930 only to play Xbox Games.

If you want to stay with WP, you'll be better with a cheaper relatively good option like the 830 and spare the money you would literally waste on the 930 and keep it for the next WP flagship, whenever that one shows up (you will be waiting quite a long time, though.)

Hi Fred

I've had the same battery problems with my L920 before and I'm deciding between these phones as well. I've read someplace that the battery problems go away after updates for the 930 though.
For the purplish tone on the screen, I guess it's a manufacturer defect maybe since I don't see that when I tried to use the 930 in one of the stores.

Did Microsoft dump Nokia's Clearback technology already?

No. The first MS Lumia, the 535 does omit ClearBlack because you know, money.

(the purple tint was apparently some issue that can be corrected by fiddling with the color profile settings)

Personally, I'd have to spend some time choosing between the two, but I'd probably spring for the 830 since the battery life seems much better - replaceable too.

Hey, OP. I'm new to Windows Phone, bought a Lumia 1320 to replace my Note II. It was the only option for me given that my carrier doesn't have the 1520 or 1020 in stock. After using WP for a few weeks, I've come to like it and want a "better" one. I too was looking at the 930 and 830 and between those two, I'd go for the 830. Mainly for the interchangeable backs and thinner profile. There's a good comparison video on YouTube by phonedog if you want to get a better idea of how they stack up.
The only reason I haven't gotten it yet is because I'm trying to find a good deal on a 1520 since I love the 6" screen!

I would move from a 920 to a 930. But unlikely to move to 830. 930 is faster and better featured (Hey Cortana, 20MP camera, faster processor, 4K video).

While I have Glance on my 920, my Microsoft Band now replaces everything that did for me. (With that thought I'm going to turn it off and save the power!)

Thanks again, guys. I went ahead and bought a black 830. I must say the differences are night and day compared to my experiences with my old Lumia 720. I hope this time I stay with WP longer than before.

I am having a tough time with this as well. Since I am in the United States I can get an unlocked 830 and have LTE or go with the 930 and not have LTE. How are the load times on the 830 regarding to apps and games?

They are absolutely fine. I know what benchmarks tell us about the 830 with the 400 processor but, I the real world, its a different story. For me the 830 is snappy, period 😊
