When making a call on my Nokia Lumia 930, why does the screen go blank and I am unable to end the call?

When placing the phone to your ear the phone's sensor will pick this up and "turn off" the screen to prevent accidental app launch etc, when ending the call don't press anything, just move the phone back down and the phone should activate again within one or two seconds
