My unlocked unbranded Lumia 930 (UK user, UK phone) just got an update? WTF? This is not W10 of course, so what? Anyone got any clues? 8.10.14226.359 is the OS version I seem to have.

My 820 (also ul/ub) shows no update available.

Anyone know what this update does?

UPDATE: Turns out it isn't an OS update, but a firmware update from

02540.00019.14522.26006

to

02540.00019.15235.40008

Still don't know what it does...

Yep! I have also just received it on my unlocked, unbranded L930. It came as a big surprise. No idea what it does!

Same here, and it's annoying that there's no way of telling what it is. If WP10 comes down and doesn't announce what it is, how are we going to decide whether we should update or not? I'd like to hold off for a while until WP10 is more stable.

Interesting. I'm with Virgin Mobile in the UK and mine is 02540.00019.15235.40000. Perhaps some of us are going to get more updates before we get WP10. And it occurs to me to wonder, are we getting these from our providers or direct from MS?

The different version numbers are carrier specific, I have an unlocked 930 with firmware version:

02540.00019.15235.40008

I did get an update to "Hey Cortana" over the weekend which asked me to restart my phone but still no firmware update.

I suspect the last set of numbers in the firmware version are different for every branded version (and one more for unbranded) so not relevant. The other numbers should eventually become the same.

Except...

EE branded phones. EE provides a 'tap and pay' style nfc system on their branded L930s. I have an unbranded/unlocked 930 on EE but the app needed for this feature does not appear in the store. This is because branded EE 930s use a special firmware to enable tap and pay. Their firmware number will remain different unless a universal system comes in.
