Hello everyone...my name is Jim and I just signed up with this forum. Like everyone else I am waiting for the release of the 929 so I can dump my iphone 5.
I was just on the Verizon website and started a chat with one of their specialists, Morris, and asked about the 929. He mentioned that it is NOT coming out at all. Has anyone else had this said to them. I am going to try again since a few weeks ago another specialist said it was in the pipeline.
Hopefully Morris was misinformed. Have a great day everybody
I'm surprised either of these things were said. I haven't even gotten a VZW online chat sales associate to say anything but "I don't know about that device. They don't give us information about a device until they announce it."

Thankfully, it does seem to be the case that the sales associate aren't in the loop on upcoming devices. So I really wouldn't concern myself too much with what they have to say.

I just got a used 928 on ebay to replace my near-dead 822. I'm done waiting. I might even hang onto it until 8.1 comes out.

Just talked to two tiers of Verizon tech support (MMS issues on my 928) before they transferred me to Nokia. After the fix I was asked if I had any other questions so I naturally asked about this new Lumia 929 <evil grin> I've been hearing about.

She didn't confirm the device but she didn't exactly deny anything about it either. She just said she doesn't have any information on it "yet" and to watch their (Nokia's) website for announcements.

Agreed. Especially after hearing from Verizon employees of all sorts both extremes. If they all had the same story, I might be more inclined to believe them. But since we have heard everything from "coming next week" to "no such device," it's hard to take any of them seriously at the moment.

I had to call customer support for my wife literally the day before they released the HTC One. I asked the rep if she knew anything and her response was something along the lines of "I don't know anything about that, but would you like some information on our new Droids...blah blah". Next day, it's announced. I wouldn't read too much into this.

I just wish this would be announced before Christmas. I switched from iPhone 5 to Lumia 928, but just wish the performance was a bit better. 929 seems to fit the bill. Anyone heard anything more? (I also noticed some of the screen protector vendors on Amazon changed thier dates to Dec. 30th, Argh!)

I just talked with the Verizon rep that sold me my last 2 phones (Droid DNA and LG G2 which I returned), he said he heard one of their product reps talking about a new Windows Phone today, however he said not to expect it this year :(

Ugh. I think it's time for me to rethink the 928, especially with the app store credit they are giving out. Why does VZW do dumb stuff like this?

There has to be some kind of exclusivity window to keep this from being released this holiday. It's the only thing that makes sense (even though it makes no business sense for Nokia to keep doing this imho). Why else would Verizon not release such a phone during the holiday season?

And for those saying "might as well just wait until the new WP8.1 devices", do you really think this cycle will be different then? AT&T will get the new phone while Verizon gets late sloppy seconds.

Let's just face the facts: getting a new, state of the art WP released first on the biggest and best carrier network in the US isn't going to happen any time soon. This is our lot in life ... -_-

They're either smarter than their customer base or one of the most arrogant companies around. It doesn't make sense to me. While I don't understand the expenses involved in a product launch, I don't really understand why Verizon ALWAYS has to suck at it. Their HTC One launch can't really even be considered a launch. It was more like a tertiary afterthought behind the "new droids" AND behind Moto X. They're always late to the party and seemingly don't care. They've got coverage. Whoop de do. I've been a customer for over ten years and am seriously considering leaving because of their lack of dedication to devices. AT&T is catching up on the coverage out here in rural America (Idaho) so I may just do it...even if it costs me a stupid contract fee.

Guys, don't believe reps in stores or customer service. They have no access whatsoever to any information. If they go to the VZW intranet, the device guide doesn't have anything to signify the 929 being released soon or postponed at all. They still have the Lumia 2520 categorized as "coming soon". If the Nokia device rep visited the corporate stores, they only talked to the managers, not the store reps. If you go to indirect retailers, even the managers don't know what's happening.

EDIT: Let me add this one too- the Nokia reps already did their rounds back in October/November. So any news about the 929 being "delayed" will have to come from corporate - who wouldn't need to announce the delay to management because the device hasn't been announced at all! I'd like to see the Lumia 929 soon but it's all about the waiting game :(

Pretty much the same thing could be said about a nexus coming to verizon. Verizon seems to beat to their own drum and doesn't seem to care about having the latest and greatest windows devices right away.

Hey everyone. Been following this thread for awhile now, just waiting to get my hands on a 929 myself if and when its ever released. I'm on an 822 right now which Im happy with, but would love the 1080p screen.

I just had a conspiracy theory type thought... what if as TC man says, the 929 was put on an indefinite hold because MS tipped Verizon big wigs to an even better device being announced at CES. Thus Verizon is waiting to see what MS has in store, and maybe waiting to jump on new said device assuming it's an even better flagship than the 929 (MicroSD, etc).

I know it's a bit of a long shot, but ya never know. While MS should end Nokia's practice of carrier exclusivity, maybe MS is giving Verizon the inside track on something better they are releasing first quarter. Thoughts?

That is the rosiest possible explanation. It seems far more likely that Verizon, understandably, didn't want to market a phone carrying the logo of a company that no longer sells phones. Once the acquisition of Nokia is complete, a Microsoft logo will be slapped on the 929 and it will see a late release. That's just my 2 cents.

Somehow I doubt it, the phones already have the Windows logo on them as one of the buttons and you might see that same logo on the back in the future, but I think the Nokia has to continue because people already associate it with phones, plus it was a huge name in the late 90s. The MS/Nokia marketing machine is already working well in 2013 and I think people are seeing the ads and thinking "Cool, Nokia is back in the game!". If Microsoft tried to tie the Microsoft name to it too much, people might rebel against it because it has, for a long time, been the hip thing to hate Microsoft thanks to the success of Apple and Google marketing propaganda (forget how Microsoft is entirely responsible for modern computing as we know it, gotta hate em cause Apple said so).

Whether it's called the Nokia Lumia or the Microsoft Lumia, the money is going to M$ either way, they will do whatever they think will be easier to market. Nokia as a word just sounds cool and exotic and I think they will have a far easier time marketing something as sexy sounding as 'Nokia Lumia' rather than involving the word Microsoft.

I think the real answer is that Verizon just doesn't just GAF because they already make so many sales with Android devices. They could take or leave Microsoft products and at this point they could take or leave Apple products as well, everyone is on the GS4 or HTC One bandwagon lately and Verizon seems like they enjoy milking the gravy train of those devices, probably because so many accessories are on the market for Samsung and HTC devices, Verizon sales team members are just told to push the accessories with the phones to increase profits. It's a lot harder to do that with these Nokia phones and I think that's why Verizon doesn't care that much.

I think what will happen is as WP gets more marketshare, Verizon will be way more eager to play ball, but it looks like AT&T is going to do need to do most of the legwork to help make WP a more popular platform in the US. This is my view anyway, it just makes the most sense to me, Verizon has always been "that company" that milks the status quo instead of trying to popularize new phones and devices themselves, AT&T always does that part and then Verizon hops on the bandwagon.

Personally? I am very very close to just leaving Verizon and grabbing a 1520 on AT&T. I'm off contract with grandfathered unlimited data, but I frankly barely use it because WiFi is everywhere and is way faster in most cases. I just want a powerful flagship WP device and Verizon is quickly making me lose patience.

Me too. I just picked up a 928 with a slightly cracked screen for cheap on eBay to tide me over until the 929 or its equivalent. Not giving up unlimited data though.
Generally I'd say that Verizon is focused on the network while AT&T is focused on the devices. True, VZW has fallen behind a bit this past year but I think they will come back with a vengeance shortly.

I'm still considering grabbing a used 928 myself, but the 1520 is starting to really appeal to me with that 6 inch screen. For all intents and purposes, I think Big Red and Big Blue are pretty much on equal ground in terms of speed and reliability now. Every AT&T user I know seems to love their service in my area and my AT&T friends never seem to have lag or drops when we hang out, seems like it's just as good as Verizon at least for where I live.

What is very interesting to me is this talk of a future merge between Sprint and T-Mobile.

Microsoft can't just slap the word Nokia on new phones. They own the Lumia brand but Nokia is still a separate company that no longer makes devices.

I'm an over the road truck driver...trust me, AT&T is nowhere near "catching up". They may be in your little spot in the country, but overall, their service sucks compared to Verizon.

Id never change carriers because of hardware. That's crazy. What good is it if you can't use it everywhere?

This 929 thing is amusing. I don't recall a phone being anticipated in the way this one is.

Samsung is rumored to have a 5" WP coming out and they won't mess around and Verizon seems to love samsung.

Switching carriers for a phone is nuts. If you never leave the city then maybe the service will be ok , but the first time your out in the boonies on a road trip or whatever and you need service you'll be cursing ATT for their lack of it. Ive been with friends in the mountains and guess who had service? Me on Verizon. The ATT folks had zilch. I prefer the peace of mind of having service if needed over having some piece of tech you'll grow tired of over the term of your new contract.
Having said this, I considered trying the 1520 myself. I was going to get one and use the prepaid service and keep my Verizon acct active and compare service. The only reason I didn't is the ATT store had no 1520's on launch day. LAME! But I'm glad because I know what id end up with now, crappy subpar service in my travels on back road America. But anyone thinking of jumping ship from Verizon I suggest you test drive the network over there for a month or so. Then decide. Don't throw away your Verizon GF UL or anything else without a test drive first. Just sayin', be smart about it.

You couldn't have said it any better. I know most of you probably live in big cities and will never have any issues inside city limits on any carrier but for someone like me that lives in Southern Indiana, there's nothing but cornfields and small towns. Big city's are hours away in any direction. Verizon's service is unmatched around here, so like uncle grandpa said up above, doesn't matter how good your phone is if you can't use it.

I'm not in love with them either. Don't care for the power company, water utility, Cox cable or dish satellite either and my trash pickup provider either. However, Verizon does provide the best cellular coverage service in the U.S. tho so I can have a love/hate relationship and we can get along in that regard.
EDIT: forgot to mention the oil companies, I really hate them, but need the service they provide also.
