Does 1GB vs 2GB matter?

Until my contract runs out next week I've been floating on a 520. A few times the 512MB has bit me a few times when I go to install some apps. When I upgrade I'm wondering if having 1GB vs 2GB matters.

Does 2GB allow things to run faster? Are there apps that require 2GB?

no there are no apps that require 2 GB however having 2 GB could allows faster app resuming, less loading, more future proof.

Most apps are optimized for 512, some games require 1GB, but are sooner or later optimized for 512. Only reason that I see behind 2GB in recent Lumias is because of the high pixel count in cameras, the captured images must take a lot of memory before processing and everything.
I have the 925 with 1GB and I haven't seen an app that wouldn't run smoothly on it.
Wait until next week to see what new phones are revealed and see what kind of specs they come with.

As of now, there is no 1 GB/2 GB app barrier at all. Nope.

In the future it will probably shift to a degree, but we can't really say.
Once upon a time 512 MB was what I aspired for.

2 GB will obviously be more future proof and more accommodating, should WP gain some weight. But considering 512 MB phones are ubiquitous, I don't think we will see any significant movement away from lower specs for now.
