BTW i spoke to someone at MS who said you can still order it through them but that does not mean that VZW is not retiring it. He couldn't confirm or deny the claims but the two are not tied together.

I've always thought that the whole Icon and 929 thing was weird. Maybe they are going to rebrand it as the 930 to use the Commercials that are used overseas. Just a wild thought.

Has TCMAN said anything since he said Cyan should be rolling out? This thread moves to fast for me to check :P

Just to add fuel to the fire.

I had to call our business rep to order an iPad cover. Asked if they still carried the Icon as I did not see it on their website. He said let me check. He said they do not have it in their system because they are going to a different model. So I asked which one, he said the 928.

So mixed info there as I am sure he doesn't know much about Windows phone's if he thinks the 928 is a better/newer model.

bummer. but good excuse to get the Note 4

i 100% dont believe they discontinued the device but the 928 is still listed. i also 100% dont trust what any cell phone rep has ever told me. It will be back, if anything it's good news for us in my eyes.
Why wouldn't you believe that? The iPhone 5 was discontinued before the 4s.

there will be even less incentive to update the icon if they dont sell it anymore. this is why we need to be able to load custom roms.

I just did a web chat with a verizon person and he told me it was discontinued because of low sales. NO LIE
Did he tell you about their new iPhone 6??? All the cool kids have it and they sell like hot cakes!!!

Seriously. A rep wouldn't know their sales numbers OR reasons for discontinuing a phone.

That's because the iPhone 5c displaced the iPhone 5 as their "Mid-Tier" offering.

    The Icon isn't going anywhere.

I mentioned to the MS rep that i didn't want to buy a phone if it was going to be retired and not receive updates. He said he sees one more update on VZW site but couldn't send me the link. He then said it was 8.1/Cyan but sent me a link from MS site. Whatever the case is it's not looking great for us Icon users.

I cant find it on the we site anymore, just the 928. It does look like it is discontinued. Maybe the 735 will be announced soon and possibly a 830. Who knows...heck I can see Verizon getting totally rid of Windows Phone all together.

I am starting to think it has been retired.

I called the VZW store where I purchased my Icon and spoke with the store manager. My Icon is just over the 2 week return period. He did some checking then told me it has in fact been discontinued. He said I can bring it back for the HTC M8 if I want and pay the price difference..

    I'm debating what to do..

As some other members made clear. I was not lying about the transcript I posted. That was also the second representative I talked to asking this question. Both came back to me with the same response. I may be a newbie here on these forums and to windows phone but I'm not a liar don't worry ;)

I doubt they will totally get rid of WP ever. As much as they push iOS and Android they will always sell WP for as long as they exist. They just got the HTC One so getting rid of the OS doesn;t seem to be on their radar.

Before this spins completely out of hand, this is the simplest explanation:

    Attachment 84092

Just kidding - What's actually happening is that they are low on stock of Icon's pre-loaded with WP8/Black. As they near the roll out WP8.1/Cyan, they'll also be selling Icon's that come pre-loaded with the newest software/firmware. They probably already have boxes upon boxes in warehouses of them ready to roll out to retail locations.

It makes sense that they would take the page down when they are running low on inventory. And it makes sense that they would be running low on inventory. The Nokia Lumia Icon is the best selling WP8 currently in their line up. View Tcman's post from earlier in this thread here: http://forums.windowscentral.com/nok...tm#post2768273

"When it comes to windows phones on Verizon Nokia is pretty much it. If you head over to vzw.com to purchase an icon you'll notice the phone is out of stock while the new HTC is collecting dust."

In short: The Icon isn't being "retired" and Cyan is coming soon. Put away the tin foil hats. Verizon Reps know nothing. And ignore the posters with "sources."

Sprint did, first they stopped updating (had install WP7.8 without their help) then they abandoned windows phone altogether. It's business, its all about profit.
