Hi, i bought an icon back in march or April. I use it in Canada, but right now with Verizon who drop it, I don't want to wait orrr maybe not receive update. I'm the kind of person who like to try things first ( that's why I bought an icon and I didn't wait for the 930 ).
I have poor reception, problem with wifi.... My mother have cyan on her 520 since two months.
Is it a good idea too sell my icon and buying a 930 ??

    Thanks guys

Essentially, it's the same. I will go for 1520 or 830 though.

If you want LTE service on Verizon, you will need to keep the Icon. The 930 will not do LTE on Verizon's network.

wellll... finally I bought a 930. the phone work better than Icon. certainly the result of cyan. I thought I would be able to have LTE ... BUT no. I was able to have it with the icon -_- .

the only good thing with the 930, it's that I will have the update rapidly.

    3g vs lte
    fast update vs no update

That's interesting. Who is your carrier? You may need to manually set up your APN for your LTE to work.

I would check with Koodo/Telus for their APN settings.

The 930 works on LTE Band 4 (2100MHz).

    LTE frequency band

Here are the APN setting for Telus LTE

    This link should help too.

    the 930 don't have band 4.

I tried a lot of setting... nothing work. I'm stuck with 3g ... can't have 4g or lte.

Okay. Band 1 is 2100MHz and Band 4 (AWS 1) is 2110MHz (which technically is in the 2100MHz range).

Nokia Lumia 930 - Full phone specifications

According to this TELUS's 4G is HSPA+ which is technically true....kinda.

Difference Between TELUS 4G and 4G+ LTE

    http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage.../coverage-maps

So you SHOULD be getting HSPA+ (H+) on your phone.

HSPA+ and LTE were vying to be the next 4G standard. However, even though HSPA+ has up to 40MBps download, it's load capacity is not as big as LTE and LTE has a 300MBps potential. So carriers are moving towards LTE because of its long term benefits. Hence Long Term Evolution (LTE).

Do you know how fast the download speed is for Koodo's/Telus network? If you have any friends on Koodo see, ask them to do a speed test and compare the results.

Holy cow! I need to move to Canada! That is a HUGE difference. Then yes, switch back to the Icon. I don't understand why the 930 doesn't work on Telus' LTE network. The 930 was essentially the non-US version of the Icon. How ironic that a Verizon, US-only, phone works better outside the US than it does in the US.

if I understand the 930 will only work with lte from rogers. but the updates bother me a little bit. I would keep my icon, but you know I'll have denim on the 930 before cyan on the icon. I think that will be the same for windows 10.

if only the firmware could be installed with the developper preview.

Good point. Unfortunately, firmware thru DP is a non-starter for branded phones. For un-branded devices like the 930 an 1520.3 that's a whole different story.
