On my Samsung Ativ Odyssey, I could choose between 4 and 6 small tiles of width.
On my Icon, I don't have that option (only 6).
Honestly, I think the tiles are too small and the screen feels too busy.
Is there not an option to go back to 4 small tiles of width?

1080p screens and higher don't have that option while lower resolution screens do.

I agree that it is too busy. My Lumia 928 was just the right size of tiles, now with the Icon they really are a bit too small for my tastes.

It's not resolution like 1080p, its the size that dictates it. Phones with displays larger than 5 inches do not have the option available to them.

Not according to the websites that talk about this feature.

Like this one:

If you're using a Windows Phone 8 handset that does not have a 1080p (or "Full HD," or 1920 x 1080) display?that is, any Windows Phone 8 handset other than the Lumia 1520 or Icon, plus a few others?you will see a unique new option in Settings, Start + Theme: Show More Tiles.

It just so happens that all 1080p Windows Phone devices are 5" or bigger at the moment.

Just upgraded to an HTC One from a 925 and being forced to use small tiles is a real disappointment. The size of the tiles on my 925 was perfect. :(

Ahhh. But the Lumia 1320 doesn't have 1080p IIRC.

Correct. The 6" 720p 1320 does not have the option, and see's three columns.
I don't think the 830 has the option to turn off toggle "show more tiles" either, having a 5" display. (720p as well)

Put some invisible tiles and there you go, less tiles in a row.

That does nothing for the actual size of the tiles however.

That's a good point. I also find the tiles to be too small.

FYI...
I can choose 4 or 6 tiles, with Windows 10.
I tried 4 and it was horrible.
The tiles were HUGE!!!
Hehehe...

I really don't like the 5" form factor, to be honest.
It's barely too big, in my opinion.
I'd rather have a 4.5"-4.7" or jump to the 6".
At least, with the 6", it would require a change in how I use the phone.
The 5", though, is just small enough that I still want to use it one-handed and just big enough to annoy me that I can't use it one-handed.
