what do you mean ethereal contact? I mean I have an idea but im not sure what it is
    Nice typo. :P

My wife has a counselor education. Ethical contract means not becoming personally involved and having a means to debrief.

There's actually a time period allotted for when becoming friends or otherwise is set. Doesn't mean everyone follows this but if you believe in ethics than you follow it as closely as possible.

o.o that typo, I never heard of it :P

It's both conduct and contract. When you're dealing with people's personal lives it's a bit more serious. Teaching is really no didn't in this sense.

I could have said ethical conduct as well but conduct is what you as an individual practice. Understanding the contact part is the other part of the equation.

I have others but cannot get to them now because of preparing for a long day ahead. Maybe while I'm at work on lunch I will ask them...

Personally the amount of money they waste on prostitution in the US is simply ridiculous. They should just legalise it and it will solve the majority of the issues. I won't say all but most.

As for the teacher thing, I'm starting to believe that ethics is not being taught well and not being refreshed often enough. On top of that probably most teachers have no one to consult with either and debrief.

I get refreshed on ethics on a yearly basis and my wife has been educated in it from day one in her field. She gets very frustrated with people she works with who don't know or understand ethical contact with clients. Since the industry is pretty unregulated there's no one policing it. Very sad.
I'll comment more on this during my commute in. Going to catch a few hours of sleep but these are interesting points. I'll say this: some teachers may be walking around with unprocessed baggage that shows up in the violation of the power dynamic between teacher and student.

I keep forgetting how young you are. I was just about to ask if you've been sleeping under a rock or something.

Thing is, they have the second amendment wrong. But I'm not going there.

There's a lot of messed up people in the US. People with guns continue to kill people but its never the easy access to guns that's the problem.

Proper terminology is 'extreme right wing' and 'extreme left wing'. :P Adding 'sided' is a bit confusing.

Not sure what documentary you would watch for extreme left wing though... The far left can be a kooky but far from being aggressive, though the extreme environmentalist can be one aspect of the extreme left but hardly violent. Please don't go calling communism or Marxism extreme left. They could be considered extreme socialist ideas which the 'left' can agree with but I don't know if I would call them the corner stone of left thinking.

I don't disagree with that statement. I don't personally believe it's always a clear cut thing however. I can easily see how these things happen in the circumstances they do. That's where having regular updates about ethics and having a debriefing outlet would be very beneficial. I kind of doubt many teachers in this situation go out of their way to have this sort of thing happen. I know the famous Police song 'Don't Stand so Close to Me' touches on this subject and it's been a 'taboo' subject for many years. I guess the thing to keep in mind is that sometimes teachers are not much older than the students they teach.

I'm sure all of us at some point in life had a crush on an older person whether it be teacher or otherwise.

Taking a modern adult vs child view point however, one must always say that the teacher should know better and should deal with the situation in an more adult manner. The line is obvious in these cases. That's the more troubling aspect of it all.

    It's for long term storage.

When they are in a liquid culture you have to work immediately with them, for some applications you can them keep on ice for a few hours, but that's about it. On agar plates you can keep them up to a month, depending on the strain and the antibiotic resistance. However if you want to store them for months or years, you keep them in a freezer at -80C.

You can then just take a tooth-pick, scratch a little bit off the frozen surface and streak it out on another agar plate, and they'll happily grow again.

You can do something similar with cell cultures, but that's much more complex and you freeze them in liquid nitrogen or in the gaseous phase of liquid nitrogen.
