re: WC 100K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Isn't height normally calculated in feet . Or am I wrong??

What's normal?

In Europe the metric system is used. The big advantage you ask? We have only _one_ unit. Meters.

So if the plain flies on 10 000 meters, it's 10 km. (k is just a symbol for 10^3). I explained the entire system once in this thread.

If the plain flies on 30 000 feet, it flies on 5.68 miles or 10 000 yards.

If the worm is 10 cm it's 0.01 m. (10 * 10^(-3) )

If the worm is 4 inches it is 0.333 feet.

You see the difference? ;-)

And it gets even better. 5'5 is 167 cm or 1.67 m. Or 1 m 67 cm. Just one unit, not a mix of not compatible messiness.

I get how big feet are 😊

I guess im used to this type of measurement but I don't get metric at all.

Maybe it's easier just to quote a homepage:

The metric system is the preferred system of scientific units for several reasons:
  • The prefixes attached to metric units carry the same meaning for all base units.
  • The metric system is based upon powers of ten, which is convenient because:
    • A measurement in the metric system that is represented by a rational number remains a rational number after metric unit conversion. (For example, 250 mm = 25 cm = .25 m). In contrast irrational unit systems , such as the English system, do not have the same property (For example, 250 inches = 20.8333... ft = 0.0039457... mile)
    • Because metric units are decimal-based, they are easily converted by moving the decimal point.
