    Hey gang!

Just making my rounds and checking in. It’s a cool 50 degrees (F) this morning here in Florida on this fine Thursday.

I have some news to share; at 48 years old, I’m finally buying my first home! I finally feel comfortable enough in my career to settle down and make that “American Dream” a reality.

I’m currently in the contract signing process to purchase this house that I’ve been renting for the last 4 1/2 years. Wish me luck!

I'm testing the Mi Mix 2 today. So far, no complaints.

I, like Pixel 2, beoman the 3.5mm jack admission. I do welcome being able to play WMA files again on this device (cannot play DRM files on the Pixel 2). Phone deminsions are no issue as I can use it either one or two handed easily.

Camera is good enough. Will test it in low light but don't expect to see anything different than 99 or the reviewers have seen. Battery life appears appropriate.

Outside of the 3.5mm jack, and IR blaster, I wish this was the 128GB model. Otherwise, it's a solid upgrade to the Mi Note 2 for my needs. I can easily use this as a daily driver.

Yes. It adds that watermark (signature) at the bottom left, but it can be removed.

A typical week from hell is mercifully over. The only saving grace is that my boss has my back 99 times out of 100 and stays out of my way.

Every week is a week from hell designed to explore hell's landscape. I swear I need a EZ pass to keep up with all these trips there.

This is an interesting watch...it illustrates how powerful our dollars are as consumers. It also shows how much skill and industry is behind getting us the products we crave.

It goes to show you how much a company will invest in securing its product in a manner that it seems profitable.

I did wonder if he was going to be able to do it successfully but I was glad to see that he did. That aside, he did have some points that I never thought of and that makes a lot of sense actually.

Remember that he was working on one device. Much of the manufacturing process is automated, I'd suspect, except for certain key parts.

As much I as don't read stuff on iMore, Rene wrote a fanstic piece years back on why Apple stuck with the storage tiers in the way that they do. OEMs want you as the end to get emotionally attached to one device and feed you services to that device...then replicate that experience across as many people as possible. Most people only one one phone and don't change phones much because phones are still a luxury item.

This guy taps into a small percentage of humans who like Apple's products but don't like their restrictions. Would I do what he did to modify a phone? Hell no. But credit is due in terms of creativity to both Apple for designing their product and people who want to modify Apple products to fit their needs.

It would appear they plan to deliver 8.1, not 8.0.

It has me shake my head as to how LG is somehow keeping the carrier branded devices updated and leaving its unlocked customers holding their nuts while twisting in the wind.

LG ain't ThinkQ things through correctly.
