It's the alcohol. They typically drink prior to going out cause it's cheaper. So they're semi drunk already, then they get completely hammered when out.

Death in the family - paternal grandmother. I'm off WPC for about 10 days (flying back home for the services). Still have to finish two final papers within the next two weeks too.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I'm not great in these situations as I find platitudes just don't cover the realities. I'm sure whoever your doing the papers for will understand.

One of the more crappier aspects of life is as you get older, so does everyone else.
