re: WC 100K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

No, no, no, not after having this argument in another thread trying to explain why I would never say such a thing! ;-)

I don't think app developers of big companies are lazy. That has multiple reasons. A developer programming for iOS most likely isn't programming for Android and Windows Phone. So they have to hire specialists for each platform. And the developer they hire is most likely not lazy, a big company usually doesn't hire lazy people.

It has nothing to do with laziness, it has something to do with business decisions. They have to device to support the platform, have to device to hire the people, have to decide to provide the support. That's a lot of money, and if they think market-share is too low, they won't invest it.

That's my theory, it has nothing to do with laziness.

Well, I see your point in regards to the costs involved. Saying that, it does point to a level of laziness. Instead of making the app comparable to it's rivals they develop a mediocre app and then complain no one likes it. Then they pull it.

Makes complete business sense to me.

But this is during the transition from Whatsapp being independent and Whatsapp being taken over by Facebook.

Also, as far as I know, Nokia was deeply involved in developing an usable Whatsapp app for Windows Phone. Maybe this direct cooperation got lost when Microsoft bought Nokia.

Wasn't just in reference to Whatsapp. For the longest time we had rather mediocre apps from most of the big guys or none. It's only been recently that things got a touch better. However, WP is never simple. Just when things look good it goes down hill again. :p

I will say that this year has been pretty boring for WP. We're not looking at any new handsets until about November and WP8.1 though officially release is not coming to older models until June/July or who knows when.

I'm not in the best of moods and I have a high level of sarcasm today. :/

I still don't think it's laziness. I still think it's limited resources. Maybe they give in, give one guy the job to develop a Windows Phone app, while on iOS and Android works a team or something, I don't know.

I just think a company that hires a lazy developer is a bad company.

Also, if the laziness theory would be true, that would mean that all company hired WP developers are lazy, as all the big apps are bad :p

I'm sorry to hear about your mood though.

I agree with the bad hardware situation, while everybody waits for the new iPhone and companies release high-end phone after high-end phone for Android, there's really not much going on the Windows Phone side of things. We have two phones that were high-end half a year ago, of which one will be re-released with a new name internationally.

I think we're using the same term meaning different things.

When I use the term lazy I'm referring to more of a 'we'll just throw this app out there' and not care much attitude. So their costs for doing the app restrict the dev who would like to do a good job but can't due to time/costs. In that way they're being lazy. Instead of investing in a good app they rather just 'test the waters' and see. To me that's lazy and it's bad for our ecosystem because we end up with a bunch of second rate apps.

Yep totally agree. The L930 excites some people but to me it's just lazy. :p LOL!

I understand why some people are concerned with MS taking over Nokia. They seemed to be on fire now it just seems dull.

Well, if they release hardware with the quality of the Surface 3 Pro, this could really be something. I think the S3P is an amazing piece of tech. So I believe that Microsoft could build a great phone, but in what time-frame?

Sarcasm is always good. Especially in high levels.

I'm still looking for a nice WP8 device. The 930 looks good, but it is overpriced at launch. Right now I can get a 1520 for $492 including shipping. There is no way the 930 is cheaper than that at launch. So at this point I'm wondering what's out there that works for me. I'm not seeing much.

I'm channeling my inner Chregu here...I like my 8X and 925, but if I could get a fusion of them, that'd be perfect.

I think something similar to a HTC M8 would be nice in a smaller form factor with a better camera. I would love that. I'd buy that tomorrow.

That would be amazing. A HTC Mini 2 with better specs!

It's a rip-off what they charge for that phone...

That sounds like a WP8 version of the M8 mini (I hate that official name for it). Not a bad idea.

I guess I just want a good camera, good audio for music and a microSIM card slot. I don't think that's a lot to ask for, but apparently it is.

If you think that's a rip off, wait until the 930 launches. Nokia phones lose their retail value slowly so that **** will be overpriced for a few months.

The name is lame but what else is new?

I'd like to see Nokia make an elegant metal phone, not like the 925. A better overall phone. If they can accomplish such a feat I may just buy it. I will consider other OEMs but the ones they have, aside from HTC, do not excite me much.

Agreed. Still think the 925 has a sexy design. If the 1020 had the s600 chip I would have gotten that years ago. Ah well, there's nothing exciting hardware wise for WP8 these days.

In Switzerland the Lumia 930 is listed for 599.- and the HTC One Mini 2 for 520.-. In a special offer you could get the HTC One M8 for 599.-, usually it costs 679.-.

I think the Lumia 930 has by far the better hardware, for that price-difference I'd always choose the Lumia over the One Mini 2. And the HTC One M8 anyway over both for that special price, if it wasn't far too big for my taste.

You can get the HTC One (old) for the same price as the HTC One Mini 2, and that has so much better hardware in every way.

How much is the 1520 over there?
