And here in the US of A it's called: "being American".

Not sure if I ever told you the story about the B&B I stayed in Paris the first time.

We were going over the reviews on TripAdvisor and we came across this one review by an American. He gave it a one because... Wait for it... The TV had only one English channel.

That tells me all I need to know...

There's possibly two things you have to take into consideration. One is context. Two is if you're saying it correctly.

It's difficult to explain how the word sounds.

I heard Jeremy from top gear saying the word. I found it quite funny 😁

Last time I checked Clarkson is British, not Australian. The accents are different. I know most Americans can't tell the difference...

It sounds different from an Aussie.

At least he kept it classy. He could have complained about having too many French people there.

My favorite thing has always been when i hear people mispronounce Iran as "I ran". My knee jerk response is always to wonder "I ran for cover? I ran from trouble? I ran for a cause?"

Now if people think I'm being a whole ***, answer this: why do 'Muricans pronounce things this way:

Iran: "I ran"
Iraq: "I rack"
Italy: Italy (not "I tally")

Why can they only get it right for the last one and not the first two also? Is it the love of pasta? The fear of the Mafia? Or the fact that Italian culture is so woven into the Murican fabric you'd be a Numbskull to mispronounce Italy?

Yup, and you wonder when you have the highest state's reading proficiency at graduation being 54% why people globally cannot take you seriously...

I wouldn't be surprised to find one of those...

You mean just like the idiots who go to Egypt and shoot a porno with the pyramids of Giza as a backdrop, or the ***** who went streaking through machu Picchu and got arrested?

Most people can't pronounce a lot of Italian food correctly...

Ask anyone to pronounce bruschetta who isn't Italian or speaks the language.

I'm still trying to figure out why the h is silent on herb in the US.

Someone also went streaking through one of (i believe) the top Cambodian tourist sites too. I believe in all three cases there were arrests, deportation and fines...and possibly bans from entering the respective countries for periods of time.

Bing/Google...you'll have a grand read.

I always thought that's the way, the rule, you guys pronounce those state names.

Here in South-eastern Europe we have no problems pronouncing any words in any language. Possibly cause our language is so complicated.

You sure that's the case? Maybe we pronounce them wrong but we don't know since we all pronounce it like that? ;)

I tried to learn Finnish. Though it's a phonetic language, usage is a whole other ball game... The Finns do have some difficulty with other languages if they haven't been taught them simply because they have issues with the other languages not being phonetic and don't understand why that is. :p Then of course there's that thing about Finns being embarrassed about speaking incorrectly, mostly the instructor's fault for implying there's an issue with that.

There a lot of stuff in "American English" many 'Muricans cannot pronounce, and yet some of those folks are ready to rip kufis, hijabs and tubans off people's heads.

Damn honkeys...

Had an old penpal the old school way from Finland who shared this stuff with me also. Some of the languages on this earth are hard to learn...

You know, working folks dream of money... hitting the lotto.

I never play, because Uncle Sam always wins. And depending on how poor you are, everything changes - not for the better in some cases.

"More money, more problems indeed..."
