A lighthouse erected in 2002. What a tourist trap!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

When 'employment' means just having a job, whether you actually get paid or not, is not really employment but they consider it in their statistics that way. That's when I decided the employment rate is a bunch of rubbish.

Then there's underemployment.

As for the so called 'economy' what exactly is it and what good is it for anyone if you don't benefit from it? The stock market to me is not an indication of how well the economy is doing. It's an indication of how rich people get richer. Which is all that's happening. When the stock market crashes again, and it will, it will make the last 'financial crisis' look like a walk in the park. It's the 'average' person is who is going to suffer most in this like the last time. Poor people will suffer but when you go from having something to nothing you feel it more.

The stock market was made for the purpose of investing in companies to help them grow. These days it's all about greed.

I think the rich people of this generation don't have any morals at all. That's my personal opinion. Their frivolousness seems nice when things seem good but I think it will wear thin. At least to anyone with a brain. But then we are talking about a populace who gave up on thinking rationally...
You and I know this. The people who Mr. Trump target don't care about this. That's the problem. They will get by either on privilege or resource. I've (and others who look like me) got to survive regardless...we always have to.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I can appreciate that in the past things were done like that but considering how far people have been pushed I don't see the revolt happening any time soon. TV, streaming and sports have all done their jobs very well to curb the hostility towards the elite. Rome has returned it seems. Distraction is a good tool.

My point that I was getting at is that we as a society continue to wait for top down solutions. There's no need to. If we as a society and more importantly as a local community start to work together then things can change for the better. I'm not talking about anarchy here. I'm talking about us as humans stop being so ******* selfish and start realising we need each other.

The lessons that was drilled into me when I was young was to share. Unfortunately society sees sharing as a commodity now to. That's how I know we've gone too far now.

Our whole world economy is built on the idea of greed and how much we can get from the other person. How about we change that a little? At least locally?

It actually doesn't take that much to change things but it does take someone to start.

Unfortunately, sharing has now been equated with “socialism” by the right and their minions, aka MAGA. The unemployment figures are an easy to distract from the fact that many are low-paying service sector jobs. Real wealth for the middle class comes from a healthy tax base. I’m sorry but a barista at Starbucks and his/her roommate isn’t contributing much. The Reagan Revolution did its job well, sweet dreams.

We are a country that only cares about ourselves individually. We don’t care if our neighbor is starving as long as we have 3 cars, 5 TV’s and landscapers mowing our lawns. If you don’t have those things it’s because “you didn’t work hard enough”. Gun violence, walls and name calling are all we are interested in.

I just came back from a trip to Europe. Though not perfect, I always get a sense they have a better idea of what community is. They enjoy their lives more without as many material possessions. There is not as much of a divide between the haves and have nots. We all have a short time on this planet and, the older I get, the more I see how wasteful this country is.

JMHO of course.

Sadly, this is fair. I roll my eyes at my taxes each month, but don't complain a ton as I can argue I contribute both ways with the taxes and type of work I do.

The US transitioned over to a service economy years ago. The reviews of place I'm staying at for the wedding all said one thing - the service of the (mostly Hispanic frontline) staff is excellent. You wonder if these people are being properly taken care of as far as wages and opportunities to build a better life. I wish we had put money into bolstering these service economy jobs, but businesses here are more interested in cutting cuts to make profits.

Ah, so this site came back now? lol

Also, the Honor 20 Pro content is not interesting to me because I question the point of it with the current situation. Are all of these alliances and companies really going to take back their stance? That's not a real question...

There's a really neat looking hotel in the middle of nowhere in Santa Nella, CA called Mission de Oro. Finally grabbed a decent picture (almost 7 years later since I first noticed it).

The wedding was nice. I liked the versatility of the Mate's camera in auto mode. I used night mode, portrait, wide angle, telephoto at 3x and 5x zoom. Most of my shots I was pleased with.

The oversharpened shots I don't like at all. Not a fan of the app layout. But it's still a camera worth exploring. Video was OK.

Glad I have it as the camera phone.

P.S. iPhone XR is a very nice camera. An old colleague took a nice portrait style shot of me and the gf in one take. I get why people like the auto mode.

Not sure where in Europe you were but I can tell you the UK is very much a materialistic society and has been for a very long time. It's known as a country of shoppers. They even call themselves that. The divide between the have and have not is huge in the UK.

In other countries of Europe I have lived in and visited the divide between the have and have not is there like many other countries. The tensions are there. The main difference is most EU countries have good safety nets in place whereas the US does not.

As for community. Those problems are there but I think the safety nets that are in place help with that a bit. It's not perfect as you say but I can say with some certainty that rural areas especially are feeling the issues more than anywhere else and big cities always have their problems.

Sadly some European countries don't realise how good they have it (France for example) and don't take advantage of the things they have.

However, you are right. I find European countries are more family oriented which makes them more community oriented on the whole. They like the more simpler things in life and have passions that are varied and interesting. It's part of the reason why we stay in Europe rather than return to Australia or Canada.

We used to put that in teas to drink too. Bitter as F, but very healthy.

Haha..
Gotta remove outer green skin. The thick translucent jelly makes great soup with ribs
It was the jelly I was talking about. We used to boil and drink that as a cleanser. If it was too bitter you could put some dark cane sugar in it. Still tastes awful though.
