Please delete the other thread. Couldn't find an appropriate place for this, but I hope somebody will have some ideas here.

I've run into this before, and it always stumps me.

Video games, fine. Music, fine.

I play a movie, or some music however...

The background audio and effects and music *blare*. Voices are whisper quiet. I can't understand a dang thing that's going on without waking up the neighbors.

Speakers are plain pair with a built-in subwoofer.

I think it's some sort of issue with the audio card trying to put out surround, and there not being the speakers for it, but I'm really stumped. Ideas?

What hardware, software and OS are you using?

We will need more information to help you to troubleshoot.

I guess I'm not so much troubleshooting as wondering if this is just me using the wrong speakers. I think my sound card is trying to do surround, despite not having the right type of speakers to output to. (Speakers are plain pair with a built-in sub.)

Windows 7, VIA HD.

Issue happens only in video playback, no matter the codec. Makes me think it's a setting more than anything.

you dont have to worry about this man. just uninstall the video player. restart your system. then reinstall the video player to your main directory. its not the problem with your hardware.

First I would check the VIA VDeck application software that probably installed with the driver. My guess would be there's different sound profiles setup depending on the media playback. I'm guessing this is the issue.

If all the settings appear ok then I would try a different media player and see if you get the same result.
