My opinion though: Like most people, the federal government doesn't need to continuously get deeper and deeper involved in every aspect of life. Given that federal loans and grants are so important today, the government would gain extreme control over what Universities succeed and which suffer.
I don't want to write a long thought on here but I will mention one thing that scares me. One part of the rating system would be "the percentage of lower-income students who attend. " With Affirmative Action becoming less and less popular in the US, this part of the rating system seems to be a thinly veiled attempt at again basing college acceptance on things other than how the student did in high school, including race.
BTW, the White House says they won't have a ranking of schools, just a rating system for each school....
