The first time I ever had pizza with thon/tuna was in France and it was really good. You don't find tuna pizza in the states. I also had a pizza in France that had an egg on top and that was the first time I've ever seen a pizza with an egg on top.
Didn't know that pizza with tuna isn't common in USA. Here in Europe it's very popular and I like it. In general pizza is one of my favorites.

Eating Italian food in Italy is really different from eating Italian food in the states. The first time I had Italian food in Italy I looked at my wife and said, that's just like my mother use to make it. My grandparents immigrated from Italy in 1920

I've been wanting to go back to Italy for some time now. I hope to do some driving through the country and visit some places along the way. I've only been to Rome and Venice so far. The food was fantastic in both places.

We've popped over to Italy by train a few times when we're in southern France visiting my wife's relatives. I've only been to a few northern cities in Italy. I would like to see Rome, Venice and Sicily.

When we were in Rome we stayed in a B&B that was litterally 100m from the Colosseum. I didn't realise at the time that it sits in the centre of a roundabout. :P Walking around in Rome felt like travelling through time. There's archaeological sites everywhere.

I liked Venice but not as much as Rome. It's a beautiful place. We stayed on the Grand Canal at a B&B in one of the old palaces. Venice has a certain feel to it. I'd like to go back to both again but of course I want to explore other areas before that. :)

    Rome is like time travel.
    Fascinating place I must say.

We had a rental Fiat Punto stolen off the street there lol
No biggee tho...because driving in Rome is like Mr. Toads wild ride

To say the truth the whole of Europe is like stepping back.
I really miss traveling to Europe high and low.
Being there widened my eyes and slowed my pulse.

Some of my best life experiences happened there!

    Apologies for the deflection

So I thought I would post my 40th birthday dinner photos. It's a couple of years back. It was at Bussia in Amsterdam. A restaurant seriously lacking a Michelin star. I hope it gets one soon.

This is a collection of starters, mains and desert. Not all dishes we had are present and I can't describe them all as I don't remember.

Talking about standards and being awarded a Michelin star. I've eaten in a few Michelin star restaurants and you can clearly see the high standards that they have, but as you mention, a few like Bussia in Amsterdam get overlooked.

I don't have the best palate, but nothing ticks me off more than when a restaurant says something is fresh and it's not. It's really apparent in seafood and when you ask, "Are you sure this is fresh?" they come back with some crazy statement like, "It's fresh frozen". That's not fresh. There is such a big difference in taste between fresh and frozen seafood. Just cook a fresh trout and a frozen trout side by side. There's a big difference in taste between the two. Even the texture with the fresh trout is so much lighter and fluffier than a frozen trout.

We have a lot of small taverns by our house and 98% of them have the normal tavern food. Frozen pizza or frozen pizza puffs that they heat up behind the bar. Most of the food pictures I've posted are from a tavern that my wife and I go to a lot to eat, and whoever the chef is, he/she has high standards. Not what what you would normally expect from a tavern.

The loaded nachos I posted yesterday are not your normal loaded nachos. Most places that you order loaded nachos from toss some beans and canned jalapeno peppers on some tortilla chips and then pour melted Velveeta cheese on the top. Those load nachos that I got yesterday were carefully layered from the bottom to the top. It's hard to see from the picture, but once you started eating it, you saw all the layering. Tortilla chips, then hot beans and beef, then real shredded cheese, then fresh (not canned) jalapeno peppers and black olives and then lettuce. That's the way it was carefully layered all the way up. You wouldn't normally expect that from loaded nachos. I actually couldn't eat it all.
