    It's also true.

In all fairness a Smartphone should not be compared to a Cellphone because those are two entirely different devices. There's is so much whining about battery life and quite frankly.... what else could anyone expect!? The Smartphones of today are in reality mini laptops with a ridiculous amount of computing power.
How long can a Laptop/Ultrabook run on one charge? Answer : Way less than a day, and 7-8 hrs at most.

As a phone a smartphone is pretty substandard. Useless as a safety device.
It's a great PDA with phone capabilities.

Yeah I'd agree. Cellphones have developed rapidly and the battery tech powering them has not kept up at the same rate. Still, funny image. It reminds me of the glory days of Nokia's brick technology.

Actually battery technology has grown. The problem is cell phones are using massive amounts of battery consumption. Cell phone these days are practically computers.

Yes, the hardware is advancing faster than battery tech in general. It's all about physics.
So let's take this a step further... by looking back for a moment.

A PDA from let's say '03 - '06 only had maybe 5 hrs of battery life, not great by any means but the most handy features available today were already there. What if a new product were to come out which would basically be a PDA of yesterday with phone capabilities with hardware performance just a bit better than the old PDA but using modern manufacturing tech fro the hardware (Processor/Memory/Camera) and the latest battery technology but removing all the CPU cycle hogging features such as HD video recording and editing/streaming.
The battery life would be awesome. I think several days easily.

The features of this new/old PDA would be :

    - WiFi
    - Bluetooth
    - Web browsing
    - Email / SMS / Skype (or similar)
    - GPS
    - All the basic note-taking-and-planning features.
    - Decent camera (3-4MP)
    - 3.5" / 4" screen, decent resolution (800 x 480 or in that range)
    - Great Music player

    Would you go for it?

    I think I would.
